Hey all,

I'm trying to figure out a problem with a USB extension cable.

The problem is on a new G4 with the new Keyboard and optical mouse.

When the keyboard is plugged directly into the computer it works fine. When it is plugged in through an active USB cord it will work if you plug it in after the computer is booted up (intermittently), but it will NOT work if your reboot the computer with it plugged it (unless it is unplugged and replugged).

Is it documented anywhere that USB Keyboards and optical mouse are not compatible with active USB cables?

Should I use a Passive cable?

I am trying to go 20 feet, and a Passive cable has a "theoretical" distance up 16 feet. However, Active cables can supposedly go about 80 feet. I believe they do this by buffering the data. Could this be why the Active cable isn't working correctly?

Thanks for any help you can give me!

Blizaine
