The 2G iPhone's texting wasn't anymore expensive than for regular phones, so it shouldn't matter.

I am by no means a developer / programer.... but if someone could create an iPhone app that sends TXT messages just like iChat can, and then figule out a way to link a cell phone number to an iChat account to receive the TXT messages, that could then open the option of not taking a TXT messaging plan.

Show does AT&T coorporet people to NEVER take features away fron the customer...only add !

I don't think the TOS of the SDK allow this currently. Even if it wasn't mentioned, Apple has final say as to what it will host on the App Store and therefore, it may never see an iPhone, unless it's distributed to jailbroken iPhones.

All the standard AT&T plans apply to the 3G iPhone... at minimum you have to pay $70 for 450 minutes and unlimited data; you can also buy any of their text messaging plans.
