I've heard a few times mac community people say that mac owners - addicts or whatever - are cat lovers. Well, it really is my case. I'm interested to know how much this is true.

No offence, but I extremely dislike cats. (Could it be cause I'm alergic to them?) Oh well. I don't have any, BTW.

Two here, plus a dog on temporary loan. The dog has lived all its life with cats, though, and I don't know if it sees any difference between the two species.

I hate cats. They should all die. They're snooty annoying animals. You just KNOW that if they could speak english that they'd have some snooty ass french accent.

"hahahhaha meer human. I'm quite superiour, because I can sh*t in a box! hahahhhahah bonjour tutapelle hahhahaa":

Argh. Dogs are a zillion times better. You can go running, boating, swimming, picking up chicks, or the classic game of catch with a dog. Plus you can come home and they run up and are all happy. And, if you look at them, make a funny face, then they want to play,a nd you can just charge them and just dive at em and wrestle and stuff and they wont break their dang bones. Dogs kick arse. Cats suck. I hope my dogs eat some more cats.

You're hopeless Cash!
I've had a dog once. That was the most stupid animal I've ever seen. That was not the point of my thread though. Just say you don't like cats, period.

My wife and I have two fine felines. Big Maine Coons. Cats make great pets; better than dogs as far as I'm concerned. Cats are very easy to care for, as opposed to most dogs, who are akin to children with severe mental handicaps. Anyways, its good to hear that Ca$h has some friends after all. I hope they don't eat some kids pet.

Here's another reason cats suck. They climb up trees but cant get back down. DUH! STupid animals. Dogs are so cool. They have personality. Cats walk around thinking they're all that, and they want me to think they're cool? They need attitude adjustments via dog teeth.

There is no common base of Mac users.
Hell, look at all the crap that Mac users disagree on -- I guarantee you there are a few people here who either LOVE or HATE the new Aqua interface in OS X... something rather trivial.

I hate cats. The best cat is a dead cat.
Here, in Australia, cats are a feral pest killing native birds and animals.
While this may not be the fault of the cat (unresponsible owners) they deserve eradication.

No. One's Max, short for Maxine, and the other's Tattoo. I didn't name either one of them.

And, no, nor Mac-related names. I draw the Geek Line firmly in the sand, it it's a ways before naming my cats after a computer.

I love cats but I can't eat a whole one.
Leftovers, dude, leftovers. Just pop it in the microwave and in a few minutes it's ready.

P.S. A cat named Pepsi? In Beirut? Why?

WTF is wrong with you cat people? You own 11 of them? Heck, the only reason we'd have 2 dogs is so they can keep each other company, not because they suck so much I have to have 2 to make me happy. Cats sure must suck, considering most of you have to own like 30 or something.

"Cat lover" does not necessarily equal "Mac enthusiast"

some of us have brains - others like cats

Did you know that they are one of the major pests in Australia? They kill more native wildlife than any other animal. Australian scientists are currently trying to come up with a cat-killer virus like the calci-virus for rabbits ( a 'humane' virus where the animal itself is not tortured like miximatosis but made sterile that it cannot produce offspring but *can* have fun trying)
this sig intentionally left blank

Responsible cat owners keep their pets inside, where they do no damage to indigenous fauna, nor can they meet their end as chew toys for Ca$h's nefarious canines. Statistics generated by a certain study suggested that an outdoor cat has an average livespan of just 3 years, as opposed to 20 years for an indoor cat!

... The real pests are the Aussies (of European decent)! Can we ship 'em back to the old world? Or at least keep 'em inside, where they'll do no harm!

P.S. A cat named Pepsi? In Beirut? Why?
'cause it's black!
The real reason is that you have to give'em names with harsh sounds like s, sh, p, i... pepsi! As a matter of fact, pepsi is more famous than coke here. But you don't want to start on that one...

well, cash just proved that cats are better than dogs.

they CAN climb up trees. Ok, given they don't usually climb back down, but dogs can't even climb UP the trees. heh heh.

I think cash and his fellow cat-haters are just worried the cats are smarter than them. As for dogs being more fun, hmmm. Cats can play, and be played with, cats cuddle (and don't usually drool all over you in the process) and cats love. Both cats and dogs shed so we can't compare that.

The aussies and the allergic may have acceptable arguments.

just curious: cats weren't indiginous to USA, europeans brought em, how come they didn't wipe out USA natural habitat as they did in Australia?

I've got a 14yr old himalayan, named Roxanna. She is honing her mind control abilities even now...

Cats suck ass. They're stupid, they act all sophisticated, and they are lone wolf type animals. They'll just go downstairs for a long time and not even care that you arent around. And cats are better because they can climb up trees? Thats the stupidest thing I've ever heard. If you said that next to me you'd get smacked up side the head with whatever convenient object was near me. How much to cats weigh anyway? About the size of a big soccerball huh? Hrmmm

Oh, and I know what you'll say. Yes; I despise little dogs too. They're even DUMBER than cats, and more annoying... YIP YIP YIP YIP YIP

Cats do love their owners too.

BTW: it is a real news clipping from some years back. I had not written the date on it, and the newspaper's online search only goes 3 years back. It came from 4-7 years ago I think.

And no, I don't hate cats. It just seemed like a cool news clipping.

I room with two grey tabbies (as nobody truly owns a cat), Lilly and Toonces.

When cats were brought to North America, there were pretty much domesticated, and had lost the instict or the fatal neck bite on their prey. Feral cats (with a few exceptions) slay their prey with a bite to the neck, but domestic cats have mostly lost that due to regular feedings from humans. Their introduction to North America was almost exclusively in residential or farm areas which were pretty much cleared of everything but rodents. The lack of the fatal neck bite has made it hard for cats to survive in the wild and reproduce to unacceptable numbers (like rabbits in Australia, eeding on native vegetation, with no predators).

I've had dogs before (an Irish Wolfhound named Rufus, and another named Mick), and althpough I loved them thoroughly, I like cats better.

Dogs are yes men. Any idiot that can utter 'come here boy' can pet a dog all they want, but if a cat comes up to you, it's only because the cat wants to. Nobody tells cats what to do, and I feel their affection is more genuine - they're not being obidient, they want to be with you.

Um. Isnt being obediant another form of showing affection? Like, aiming to please? Wanting to make you happy? Cats dont do that. They just do what they want, and they can crap in a box. Woop dee freaking doo.

I love cats. except I have one friend whose cat is big and fat and ugly and stupid. but my cat is cool.
he is an outdoor cat who takes walks with me around the neighbourhood, stands at the bus stop with me in the morning, comes trotting up to greet me when I come home in the afternoon, and insists that I walk with him to his food bowl when I let him in in the evenings, and keep him company while he eats.
and he is an excellent hunter. he catches lots of birds, and brings them home and leaves them on the door mat as offerings. one day when I had some friends over, and we were all in the yard, my cat came up with a wriggling mouse hanging from his mouth, and provided entertainment by performed sadistic tricks for my friends for half an hour.
