Time for my 8600 (my first mac) to get up to speed with my pismo. First thing, new processor. Does anybody have anyadvice on which brand is the best for the 8600.

I think all the upgrade cards are about the same. some have different features or different software, but it's all the same technology. That said, I'm happy with both of the XLR8 G3 ZIF and Sonnet L2 cache G3 upgrades.

My 86 and 96 both have XLR8 in'em and they run great, I went for these because I can clock them, my 86 runs a G3466 at 501Mhz, and the 96 runs a G4500 at 542Mhz.
Highly reccomended, the supports good to if you need help.

I've had a Sonnet Crescendo G3 300MHz/1M in my 8600 for about a year and it has been great. Can thoroughly recommend Sonnet cards as a result.

I'm running a Sonnet which runs fine ..BUT...and maybe parisblue will be back to comment on his set up..., on some machines Sonnet cards will not support, heck, will not run (crashes for weird things - like scrolling in my particular machine) with memory interleaved.
Call 'em and check it out first.
Otherwise it's stable and I don't know if I can really tell the difference with the memory not interleaved because the G3 is so much faster than the 604e, which I thought was a great chip.

Also - I know many people running Xlr8's with no interleaving problems and if I knew then what I know now, I might have made a different decision regarding MY purchase.
Greg.
