YES! YES! YES! That tutorial was so much fun... wasn't there a part where you dragged a tire around or something? Oh the memories!

What about menus an scroll bars that immediately respond to mouse action? That would be a cool feature

Another idea:

saved search criteria, or better yet, "smart" searches or "smart" project folders akin to iTunes' playlist features. I think chronological organization is important to add/improve to the Finder. Also, improving the current search field and Find features of the Finder is important. I'd rather see behavior sort of like iTunes when it is set to browse: you have columns with the results of the browsing/search just below it in a list (with alternate line shading) instead of creating new windows, etc.

That'd be lovely! And if it took advantage of the Aqua animation capabilities, it could automatically shrink/expand smoothly as you found search results or cleared your last search. That would not only look cool, but be very intuitive and space-saving.
Computer thez nohhh...

At this stage I think the UI is just fine. Perhaps a few minor refinements, but that's it. The big issues are things like a vastly improved Finder with proper multithreading, a better thought out UI for Open/Save dialogs, and a better thought out UI for reducing windows. There are still lots of places OSX is immature. Changing pinstripes ought to be very far down on the list of improvements.

I think that saved search thing could be done with applescript. IIRC, you could attach a script that ran a search for the folder's name (MP3, for example) when you opened it.

Appearance wise all I really want is this:

A full fledged Appearance control panel.

In /System/Library/Appearance/ (Appearance folder is added automatically to each user in the library including /Library)

three folders:

Desktop Pictures (System Desktop Pictures)
Textures (default pinstripe and brush metal texture seperated into two files)

Two files:
System Resources.rsrc (basically Extras.rsrc renamed. Contains a basic light grey texture with aqua widgets. The grey texture is masked with a PDF texture of your choice from any of the Textures folders which you have access to.)
System Icons.rsrc (contains all the icons)

Interchangable textures (imagine a polished oak instead of brush metal, drool, or glass instead of pinstripes... different combinations for System Texture (ie pinstripe look) and Alternate Application Texture (basically brush metal).

Also for widgets and textures, have the ability to change the hue from a slider.

And all windows are to be draggable by clicking on an empty space or static text.
In vino veritas.

1) the ability to have mounted network drives dismount after 5 minutes if the connection is lost, ie you have disconnected from the office network and plugged into the home network.....(instead of fSucking my tiBook and forcing a cold boot )

2) Saved logout states would be handy (like XP does)

3) an built in proper SMB Browser kinda like this

4) More Snapiness?

other than that im happy with X

It shouldn't fsck your Mac, even for 5 minutes. Hopefully 3rd time lucky for the Finder in 10.3....

Multiple desktops. Finally. [if true]
Save state on logout? So this will be something like the "switch user" capability of WindowsXP?

Any idea on when 10.3 is due?

There's never enough when you have too little

One seemingly simple thing I would like: put the "Empty Trash" menu item into the Apple Menu. It's kind of annoying to have to click into the Finder to empty trash and then back into whatever app you were working in.

Ctrl-click the dock icon. You *did* leave it in the dock, didn't you?

Actually I didn't (I use DragThing and keep it in a drawer), but that's a good reason to leave it in the dock. Thanks.

1. Improved performance

2. Fix the network instability. Particularly the problem of hanging the machine if the network goes away.

This has been possible since 10.0 - it is the app that has to be coded to utilise the feature.

OmniWeb, for example, has always done this with its minimised windows.
