The track pad of my iBook 600mhz is wearing out, to the point where it only responds about 2/3 of the time. Does anyone have any ideas for how to bring it back to life, shy of buying an entire new top piece that contains the track pad?

Frankly, I can't imagagine the trackpad wearing out physically. I would would check the ribbon cable and the connector.

You can replace the trackpad and wrist cover, you can buy a replacement here:

I would recommend using a trackpad cover. Its cheaper then replacing it.
