I have had this problem on several computers, and know others that are having trouble as well. If iChat opens and then quits before it fully loads, use the following command in Terminal:
Code:
sudo ipfw add deny log ip from 192.168.1.1/32 to any
I believe it has something to do with DHCP configured IPs, but I'm not sure.
If you do/don't have success with this, post and we can try to find what feedback to send to Apple.

Does anyone else have this problem? I used the code to fix the problem just as others have on the Apple Discussion boards.

I actually have this problem and tried the above code with no success. While at my home network iChat opens and quits...but on my schools network iChat works fine.
My work-around at home has been to turn off the airport then start iChat. Turn the airport back on and login with iChat.

Ahhh...I tried the code again using my dhcp router's address (192.168.123.254) and it worked.
Now I don't have to do that airport restart thing.
