That photo almost made me sick... I have a hangup regarding fingernails.

I wonder if that's where the iPod is going... 2-4 years down the road.

the article says it's because he can type better that way, but I cant really see how that'd be much faster than a stylus.

he'd be better off telling people he grew them to play guitar with, that gets a lot more chicks than "so I can type on my Pocket PC".

Neat idea to use VNC on that device. Makes me wonder why he bothered with a PowerBook instead of a desktop.

It sounds great although I'm not sure about trying to view that on a 3.6" screen but I haven't had the opportunity to try it out yet.

I was hoping for pics of it running on the Fujitsu but no luck even on his blog

Now imagine that was an Apple PDA. Scrolling click wheel on the left side for scrolling in the Finder and apps. Touchscreen for everything else. I would buy one.

Unless I'm not reading the article right, it sounds like he's using VNC to connect to a Mac running OS X. That's not the same thing as running OS X on a Pocket PC...

Ticking sound coming from a .pkg package? Don't let the .bom go off! Inspect it first with Pacifist. Macworld - five mice!

Just get up and down keys for scrolling, or a scroll wheel. But yah I've been shouting for SOMETHING like this for a long time... by the way could this be done with some sort of Palm based (read NON M$) device?

Yeah, my friend runs VNC on his Palm to connect to both OS X and Windows machines. Fairly basic stuff, so long as you've got a reasonable network connection.

MMMM responsive!
I had a go using VNC to test sites in Safari on my PC at work, it was absolute torture. It took minutes to get the feedback from any action, typing a web address or scrolling a page for example.
an that was with a wired broadband connection at both ends (at home & work), that has at least one wifi connection.

So would VNC not work so well over AirPort?

I installed VNC on my powerbook at home after reading this article, then went down to the campus library to give it a shot. I was really impressed with how well it worked!
I was able to control every program with ease, the dock worked smoothly. The only complaints is the graphics, but I'm going to tweak with the settings to find the optimal quality of picture and speed.

I would be in line right behind you. I really like converged devices, Treo, as it lessens the clutter of two devices. But if Apple came out with a PDA, I would consider going back to two devices.

How do you control it? Does it recognize stylus input the same as mouse input, or does he have to rely exclusively on the keyboard?

That's why you don't run at FULL 256 Color mode... I run in 128 and it's only slightly slower than being on my iBook and it's only minimal color quality loss.

This makes me wonder if anybody here has gotten VNC to work on a Treo (or other Palm) to control Mac OS X. I tried and I hear it's possible but I haven't been able to get it going as of yet.

I would have really liked to reduce the colours, down to even 16, but unlike the excellent ARD admin app, the PC VNC prog I was using didn't seam to have that option. I even went as far as creating a user on my mac with a really low screen res in an attempt to speed things up.
