Due to some problems with my connection after my homepage has been moved onto a new server, I'm unable to make a news post. So I'm writing here instead.

I hope you get the correct server, then this is the link to the download page:
http://www.maxthemes.com/guistuff/?guistuff=Play%20Time

There will also be a post on the iconfactory about this.
Anyway, this is the icon set I've been working on as an intern at Marmalade Moon/Iconfacory. The first idea was to make a sort of mixed icon set with just random icons that I came up with, but when I started making an Xbox it seemed logical to do a GameCube and PS2 as well. And they all come in different colors.. So it progressed into a complete set. All of the consoles have very cool drop states that you should check out.
The Samus Aran and Masterchief icons took the longest to make, but I'm especially pleased with the Masterchief one.
This iconset was actually supposed to be previewed in a MacThemes insider, but Phill never got around to posting it..
Anyway, I hope you like it
Feel free to post comments here.

One thing we discussed was the possibilty to license these icons to game sites, but Gedeon thought that might give me trouble with MS, Nintendo and Sony because it's all trademark based. What's you thoughts on this?

Thanks, Max -- the set is excellent! The Masterchief one is pretty pretty, but I also love the Xbox Ltd Edition - such a lickable icon...

Is there no end to your talent, Max? These are absolutely stunning! I'd go as far as to say Brasgalla-quality, I really mean that. You are truly a GOD of GUI.

First time I have seen a LTD Edition Green XBOX icon, too! Mine happens to be one of those, so I am very happy.
Thanks Max!!

Dead on, perfect and stunning.

I don't know if you've done any icons before, but if you haven't, this is an amazing first icon set. It looks like Brasgalla and wife and amazing teachers.

Good luck, and I'm looking forward to your future work.

Some of the greatest icons I've ever seen- and from someone who's made relatively few icon sets! It's great to see your talents outside the borders of theming. I always loved your Game Icons as well. Keep up the good work, I hope you're having a fun time doing it!

Thanks for all the positive comments, I really appreciate it
To answer some questions..

You could say this is my first set, although I've made some icons before like those in the Game Icons se. But they were not original art, they were mostly cut out of images and made into icons. So I would consider this my first real icon set.

The shapes for the icons were made in Illustrator, then I continued in Photoshop and colored, lit and textured them. They were made at 512x512 resolution and then scaled down to 128 etc.

And I was impressed with the possibilities of drop states, I didn't know that they could be used on any folder, and not just system folders. So after playing with different states, I realized having the consoles pop out the dvd drives was logical.

Could we see them at this size by any chance? It'd be nice to see all the details a little better.

It would be cool, but I'm not sure all the details will even be there. I think some work was done after they were sized down to 128x128 (the crisp lines on the Xbox and PS2 stand out the most... unless he worked with 4px lines at 512, but even then I'm not sure if it would have reduced that nicely).

I could be wrong, though.

You know guys, I have some larger sized images that I could perhaps post in a news item later tonight if I get Max's permission. I'll post here if I do.

Woohoo! I hope so.

I think justinp may be right though - certainly what I thought looking at the Xbox and PS2s "grilly" bits. They are perfectly spaced 1 pixel thick, 1 pixel apart - to look immaculately crisp at 128x128. He could only have done this at 128x128 size, or, like justinp said, done the lines 4pixels thick at 512x512, but then he would have to have positioned the icons perfectly too, blah blah who cares anyway...

I'd to see his larger images, I bet they're great.

From the news post at MacThemes, a 256*256 version of Master Chief:

Look for a 512*512 in the upcoming Insider!

Great icons Max!
Unfortunately I'm Mac-less right now and waiting for my new iBook to arrive, so I'll have to wait a day or two to try them out, but the Xbox icon is definitely going to get used

Aaaargh! I'd rather be without oxygen!
The last time I had to go without a mac, coincidentally enough, when my iMac G3 was very ill, and I had to order my G4 iBook, I was a twitching, gibbering wreck for weeks. Didn't even shave. lol.

Anyway, I am very impressed with the Max's large image of the Masterchief. He clearly spent a lot of time getting details right before shrinking it down to icon size. Doesn't do anything by half, our Nordic wonderkid! Can't wait to see the Console ones, assuming we will get to see them of course.

Something that would be really cool is if you could make icons out of some of the old classic consoles (like NES, SNES, Sega Mega Drive, etc) in the same time. I realize it's time-consuming. But if you should find yourself with nothing to do some time, it could be something to pass time

The open states wouldn't be so obvious though! (On the Snes and Megadrive/Genesis anyway).
It would be cool though.

I'll definitely consider a follow up set when I have more time on my hands. I suppose it might be harder to get reference picture, although I have a lot of old gaming magazines that I could go trough.
The open state is less obvious, if the cartridge was to popup out there would have to be one in the machine in the regular icon and I'm not sure how good that would look.

nice nice nice.

those open states are very cool, i mean i've seen things like that done before with paper coming out of folder etc, but this brings it to a whole new level. that's going to give people alot of different ways to improve their icon sets now, and a whole different way to think about it.

well, i can't wait for you next set.

I use it on the folder that I have fileshared with my xbox, but I realize that these icons might not be as useful as a system replacement set for example.
