Hopefully. I have ticket (student scholarship), but I need money for the flight. My bank are being arsey at the moment, and not giving me the amount of interest-free overdraft their literature states. So it all depends if I can find some other way to make cash in a hurry!

What the nerd community most often fail to realize is that all features aren't equal. A well implemented and well integrated feature in a convenient interface is worth way more than the same feature implemented crappy, or accessed through a annoying interface.

Do you need to be enrolled in the ADC to register?

I really want to go, but I could get an iMac instead of a ticket. So...I guess I'll be watching it on the apple site.

IMO the Keynote is never as big a deal as the sessions.

I bet you believe in the stereotype that people visit those places just to smoke Marihuana.. But there's definitely a lot more to it than that. Like Hashish, Special K, Crack cocaine, LSD..

Yeah. It seems like people forget this is a developer's conference, not a trade show. The sessions... well, and the beer bash, are what it is all about.

Yeah, flights are super-expensive from the UK that week. Fortunately I'm not paying for mine
It'll be my first WWDC. Lookin' forward to it - 3 weeks and counting!

Lucky!
Cheapest I found is £690 return. Any idea how much yours cost?

I sent in the P.O. for my tickets back on June 19, but they haven't transferred the tickets to my ADC account yet. Hopefully there's nothing wrong, 'cause I'm not sure I'd have enough time to get it corrected.

I'll be in the Bahamas either side of it, so I'm flying to/from Nassau not London

What is it that you guys do that allows you to attend this? As a Mac user, I just can't justify it. And who pays for you?

It's a conference for developers, not users. If you work in Mac development, it's very valuable. There are also 200 or so free "student scholarship" places, allocated by Apple.

There's an incredibly valuable I.T. track, which, being an IT administrator, is why I'm going. It wasn't tough to convince work to treat it as Professional Development and get them to foot the bill.

Forgive me for asking such a stupid question, I have seen a lot of the WWDCs. But do you actually have to be a developer to see it?
|
I miss the days of the G5 and XPS Pentium 4 running side by side as high-end machines.

WWDC is a week long conference for developers and IT folk. You are probably referring to the keynote, which used to be broadcast live. You can still dig up a satellite feed to see it live sometimes.

WWDC is a conference. As goMac said, you're probably thinking of the keynote. There's much more to it, see http://developer.apple.com/wwdc/
You probably wouldn't want to pay well over $1000 to attend a week-long conference if you're just interested in seeing the keynote presentation for a couple of hours in the first morning.
Of course you don't have to be a developer or IT professional to be interested in the content of the keynotes, which have become decidedly less techy in the past few years anyway (as Apple has shifted towards WWDC as its big product announcment venue in the middle of the year, away from an east coast Macworld). But you almost certainly do have to be a developer or IT professional to be able to derive much value from the rest of the conference.

May I recommend the Chancellor Hotel?
www.chancellorhotel.com
They have space left for the WWDC week the last time I checked. They are in Union Square, about 3 blocks up from the Powell St Cable Car turn around.
It is maybe a 10 minute walk from there to Moscone Center, and it is a great location for restaurants and sightseeing.
I think their single queen bed rooms are $155 a night.
Cheers,
James L
p.s. They have wireless high speed in each room, but some rooms get better reception than others. If this is important to you, make sure you tell them if you book a room with them.
Edit: If you stay in this area, beware that each time you walk to and from Moscone you go right by the Apple Store... I hope the credit card can handle it!

I'm only a student, and a little tight on money at the moment. Last year I got $70/night at the Moser (block from Moscone). Do you know of any in this price range? I've been searching expedia looking for something similarly close and cheap with not too much luck.
