What is the best messenger app to use on mac - ideally one that takes on yahoo and msn, with video and sound…

I use adium just now but obviously it doesn't support video or sound!

The official Yahoo Messenger supports video, but no sound. There is an unofficial MSN client that supports video and sound. Search versiontracker.com for it. Apple iChat supports video and sound with AOL Messenger and Trillian Pro users. It can text message to Yahoo and MSN via the use of a Jabber-server like jabber.org.au.

There is no single program that can video conference to all the im-services.

If you want to do video with PC users, you could always try Skype.

Download Skype for Mac

Yahoo has a beta of it's messenger that does video and sound and (should) do MSN as well. I still recommend Adium. If you need webcam use AOL (iChat)...

It doesn't do MSN but MSN (Windows Live Messenger as it's now called) and Yahoo users can IM each other provided they are running the latest versions of their IM clients.

Looks like the latest release of MSN Messenger for Mac still doesn't support audio/video chat. Too bad Parallels doesn't work with my iSIght, as most of my family insists on using MSN...
I do not like those green links and spam.
I do not like them, Sam I am.

Oh wow, I just noticed that it can do this in the newest release that came out today.

Interesting.
