I have a first rev iBook, and well, as those of us with only 3GB hard disks often have to do, I was trying to free up space. I took a look at the Outlook Express folder, and it's 34.4MB!! I went in, and cleaned up every message, attachment and address that I didn't need, and now it's down to 31.8MB.

Why is the Messages file so big? I only have about a dozen messages, none have attachments, so I can't explain why the file would take so much space!

Anyone have any idea?

Thanks

When you open OE hold option, and answer Yes to both questions. Then go into your OE folder, ad delete the old index --ahhh, just spilled mountain dew all over the place---

Wow, I just zapped 45MB using the option/yes technique! Still don't understand, though, how "old" message/database stuff took up so much space. Were deleted messages being held in limbo? What "database"?

Assume everyone knows trick for emptying newsgroup cache, by holding down option while opening ng, then clicking "empty cache"?

My OE got up to over 60MB before trimming.

When you move a message to the Deleted Items folder and delete them, the space they took up in the Messages File isn't freed up. Thereby the Messages File keeps getting bigger and bigger, even if you delete every single message.
