Maybe I'll be more specific. Am I missing it on my path because I can't seem to get them to run?

$ echo $PATH
/sw/bin:/sw/sbin:/bin:/sbin:/usr/bin:/usr/sbin:/usr/X11R6/bin:/usr/local/biotools/bin

thanks,
kman

Did you try?

locate gnuplot
locate pine

/sw/bin/gnuplotx works fine here. I don't have pine installed.

Install fink or darwinports.

Then you can easily add gnuplot and pine.

(BTW, if gnuplot is in the /sw directory, this implies that you have used fink to install it.)

It was my understanding that gnuplot and pine were installed by default on a clean Panther installation. I was reading this article and it suggests they are present in a default install.

I don't have either installed on my Pantherized Mac. Moreover, the article you link to below uses these programs, but doesn't suggest that they are installed by a Panther installation, it actually states that fink can be used to install them...

Use fink.

Yes, but fink is much more convenient. Keywords updates, dependencies, etc. Of course there are packages for most things available on fink.
