After I've sync'd my iPod with my computer I will unmount it but leave it connected to my computer for charging. I'd like know how I might write a script that would remount it or for that matter, remount whatever drive is connected on the Firewire bus (I have an external HD that spins down after inactivity and then needs to be turned on and off to remount).
Is there a way to force a remount using the terminal?

Thanks a bunch!

A different solution was noted here, but I'm looking for something a bit neater, with perhaps wider use to other drives:

i dont know the terminal command, but you can open disk utility, click your ipod, and click mount.

Thanks for the tip, but I started up disc utility and the iPod does not show up. Should it?
hmmmmm....

however, it does show up in the system profiler, but clicking on the device from that window doesn't remount it either.

I thought I found the solution to my inquiry at MacOSX Hints:

http://www.macosxhints.com/article.p...y=remount+ipod

But if I eject it using Cmd+E, it does not show up when I run the following command from the terminal:
floo% diskutil list

It returns a list of devices, but not the ipod. If unplug and replug the iPod, then it of course shows up in the list.

Can it be that once a drive is ejected it cannot be remounted without physically disconnecting the wires? seems unlikely, but I don't think I'll be the one who figures it out.

Yeah, I missed that tip in the other post. Yeah, firing up iTunes remounts it. That's simple enough for me.

Thanks a bunch!
