I 'm going to purchase the Sony Spressa 12x8x32x External Firewire CD-RW and I'd like to use it with iTunes, Diskburner and hopefully Retrospect.

What should/shouldn't I install to make this work? I have no use for the Describe software. Will it work just out of the box with iTunes and Diskburner? Do I need to install any drivers/extensions? What about to use Retrospect which I believe it comes with? Are there drivers/extensions that need to be installed? Will they conflict with iTunes and Diskburner?

TIA
Rob

i'd like to know exactly the same thing.

I bought a sony firewire 12x8x32 yetserday. Open box item. When I came home and connceted it, NOTHING worked, even after installing sony's discribe software.

Apple system profiler says no devices were found on the firewire bus.

I'm hoping the model was defective. What should I do - exchange it, or buy something else? I'd like to stay away from internal/usb/scsi burners though, for some personal reasons

Did you install the recent firmware update? I suspect my computer stopped seeing my firewire burner after installing the update. I wish I had some warning about this, not just that memory problem....

The word is don't ever buy a Sony Spressa CD-RW until they work. So many people have had the Spressa fail, it's not worth it. Go buy some other brand, maybe Que!

que over sony? you've got to be kidding. i'd choose sony or yamaha (yamaha-branded, too, not just the mechanism). i'd accept a que as a gift, but i'd sure never buy one. make sure you have the latest firewire enabler from apple, and make sure the firewire cables are firmly connected. don't blame it on the drive just yet.
