Hi Guys,
I will be travelling to europe soon and have a portable DVD and a PSP.
I want to watch my Startrek DVD's I got for an early xmas present but obviously space is a premium and I dont want to bring the big bix with me and risk getting them pinched.

I have tried using Mac the ripper but get errors when ripping?
Is it illegal to try and backup my own dvds? Is there a way to get around these "paramound dvd"
securities?

Is it wrong for me to even ask any of this?

You need a nice amount of HD space to do this, but the makers of the Flip4Mac Windows Media to Quicktime converter have a public beta of a program that they're developing:

Flip4Mac Drive-in

depends on the area you're living...
over here in Europe, it is illegal to override copyprotection mechanisms; here in Germany it is even "verboten" to mention (or link to) tools doing so ...

I don't find any restrictions in the ToU of this board, which does not allow to ask for advice .. probably more a "bad kharma" thing ..

If MTR doesn't work, give a tool called
"Handbrake"
http://handbrake.m0k.org/
a chance - it doesn't "backup"=copy your dvds, but converts them into mp4... (=smaller files) .. good for use on iPods, laptops etc ...

and "usage of MTR": don't forget to play a few secs of the DVD with Apple's dvd-player app BEFORE using MTR ...
