Are the new PowerMac Quicksilvers as loud as the original?

No. I just added a Dual Gig QuickSilver to my collection and it runs quieter than the 867. The heat sink on the new Dualie is about the same size as the "old" 867. Or to put it another way the Dualie processors appear to take up less space than the "old" single 867 processor.

Oh thank god, I've been wondering about that...my ol' 867 was like my own personal jet engine.
Am I still here?

I understand they are in fact louder.

It's beginning to look like we'll need earplugs to use a Powermac G5.

You understand wrong. They are not loud. My old G4 450 was about the same.

The only thing that annoys me about my quicksilver DP800 is the constant whinning sound I hear inside there (No idea what it is, even without the cd drive running, and after checking the heatsink fan (even unplugged it), I still here the ****ing noise.. which I don't hear outside the case, but when I open it.... must be the hard drive. *shrug*

Oh well, I hardly ever notice my fans, since I'm used to fans, and play music a lot

Dude, try this...it worked for me.

Remove the two screws that hold the fan in the rubber shroud above the heatsink. The shroud is so tight that the fan stays in place just fine.
Then place a strip of electrical tape over the slit in the shroud.

That should get rid of the whining. You'll still hear the fans plenty, but the whine should be gone.

The fan in my new 933 is quieter than my G4 400. No doubt about it.
