Fair to say?

I know that most Americans are also apolitical, so maybe my subject is a little over-the-top, but those who are apolitical sure have a lousy information filter!

What were they going on? News reports, or Obama's own actions?

Among those who say Obama is a Muslim, 60 percent say they learned about his religion from the media, suggesting that their opinions are fueled by misinformation.
It's that damn liberal MSM at work again!

I'd say it's closer to 26%.

Being in debt and celebrating a lower deficit is like being on a diet and celebrating the fact you gained two pounds this week instead of five.

I'm sure 20% of the population believes other crazy shit, this just happens to be one of the more easily identifiable misconceptions.

Or, 20% of Americans distrust politicians to the point where they think they openly lie about their religious affiliation. I'm sure that everyone has head that Obama considers himself to be a Christian, but some Americans find reasons not to believe what he says.

I think that belies the main component of their distrust. If 9/11 hadn't happened, this wouldn't be the issue it is.

The poll was taken before Obama's comments on the "Ground Zero" mosque/community center if that's what you are getting at.
I think it's obvious when you consider that Obama's full name, as revealed on the secret Indonesian birth certificate they don't want you to know about, is B-Rock "Tha Islamic Shock" Hussein Superfly Obama.

If you are referring to his support of the mosque, this would further my own argument since it would be illogical to assume that because he was one of many to support it that he is Muslim.

Exactly. A little while ago, I read Empire of Illusion, (The End of Literacy & The Triumph of Spectacle) by Chris Hedges, and it's pretty frightening how unenlightened we're becoming.

I think this pretty much nails it. They just think Obama is the consummate politician, shameless in asserting whatever faith or view it is that would give him the best shot at winning office.
I wouldn't say their skepticism is entirely unfounded. Misdirected maybe, but not unfounded.

What sucks is that even if Obama was a Muslim that that would be a problem. Why do we want our politicians to be "just like us" when they often clearly are not?

Silly duck. If Obama were a Muslim, then naturally he would have to prove that he's not a terrorist sympathizer/takes money from Iran/thinks beards are cool.

My working theory is that he and Wright are gay lovers.
Say hello to your gay Muslim terrorist president, America! I hope you Libs are happy.

Right, "Barock-a-rama-ding-dong", is funny and the poster should be applauded for his hilarious dig at Obama.
It's a well known stereotypical fact that wingers have no sense of humor and shouldn't even attempt to be funny.
Your meaningless attempt to defend your compatriot of the same persuasion proves it again.

Fuddy Duddy
Fuddy-duddy - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
A fuddy-duddy is an elderly person who may be old fashioned, boring, humorless, crabby, narrow-minded, and conservative.
Fuddy-duddy "was often used as a verb by a native of the state of Maine... in the sense of 'to act in a foolish or ineffectual manner"

So you're saying that the politicians should be just like us? Smarter versions, maybe? Less affluent? Otherwise just the same?

No, they should represent the people's will and concerns, understand what makes regular folk tick, and make sure the people's will is balanced with the Constitution and other principles (like ethics etc...).
Do you have to be smarter or more affluent to do so ? You tell me...

Aren't you always the one bitching about how dumb so many of our politicians seem to be? Maybe part of the reason why we elect dumb politicians is because we want them to be like us, somebody to have a beer with? We had that for 8 years with Bush and almost another 4 with Palin. I'm sure you'll chime in about how Obama is just as dumb, which also proves my point.
I want smarter, preferably brilliant. More affluent, definitely no, but we would have to change many things about the electoral process to make it accessible to those without great big wads of cash, and it looks like there isn't enough political will for this sort of reform yet.

It's a well known problem in political circles that the electorate won't vote for people more than 30 IQ points ahead of them. So you're generally stuck with presidents in charge of less than 100 points.
