My Powerbook recently was dropped (in a protected bag) 6 inches and the casing around the keyboard surface has cracked. I am not sure my warrenty will cover this and I was wondering if any knew where I would be able to obtain a replacement part. The Apple store has not been to helpful with this matter. And seriously, I am very upset with this products ID, certainly it looks great, but a paint flake caused a scratch in my screen weeks after I got it and this is the second time I have had the case crack or buldge. I know I must be careful with a laptop, but come on. Anyway I am interested in anyone's info or general/same frustration with the fragile case.

I assume you are referring to the Titanium Powerbook here. While parts for the other powerbook models can sometimes be found (I am selling some myself) the Tibook parts for some reason aren't very common. Part of the reason is probably that they are both more expensive and more fragile (ie prone to irreversible bending out of shape) than normal plastic parts, thus stores that might stock other kinds of parts don't stock parts for the Ti. In any case, the only place I know of off hand that has Tibook parts is www.pbparts.com. They are apparently a good operation, although I have never dealt with them, and their prices are a bit expensive. You might try there.

I dropped my original Tibook also and got a new bottom from pbparts.com. It was a good experience. Their parts are not new just to let you know. However, the bottem I got from them was in good shape. Expensive, but probably the only source to making your computer like it was without paying through the nose at Apple.
