Hi,

I have a problem with my MBP that i've noticed after recently installing Leopard.

My MBP no longer makes the "dung" chime sound heard after pressing the power button to turn my computer on. It sounds like it's trying to make the sound but instead has a very faint click noise that I noticed after attempting to reset the PRAM, in which i didn't hear the chime either.

Ive reset the PRAM, and SMC, still no avail.

Does anyone know what's wrong with my MBP or a possible solution? this is getting scary!

If it's starting up normally, it's passing POST fine. Are your system sounds normal?

my computer is not on mute. I've tested it without external speakers connected and still no avail.

What do you mean by "POST" and i'm assuming my system sounds are normal...i'm not sure which sounds you are referring to.

Did you hear any chime while resetting the the PRAM?

P.O.S.T. as for Power-on self-test.

I would actually like to _mute_ the chime on boot. I find quite un-elegant and I find it weird that a design conscious company like apple would use such a hideous sound. Maybe it's kept as a heritage relic.

Is there a utility I can use or setting I can change?

I don't think it's good news. If you are still under warranty I'd get it checked out. No chime is a sign of logic board failure on a PowerBook. Can you run a diagnostic?

Hang on. You never answered whether or not any other sound is working. If you get normal system sounds through speakers or headphones, your sound should be OK. If you don't, then there is something wrong with the sound system and your logic board.
