Hi! Ok, you got your 667. Lucky! Maybe you can answer a few questions if possible.

One, any benchmarks how the 667 compares to the speed of the 500?

Two, I've read a lot of people weren't happy about the hinge on the Rev1 TiBook. Did you have any problems, and does it look like any changes have been made to the Rev2?

Any way for you to post Quake3 benchmarks, esp comparing the the 500 to the 667?

I just purchased a 667 from the Apple store for educators, and got the RAM tweaked up to 768MB just cuz it was only another 120 or so dollars and got an extra battery as well. It was cool, after the RAM upgrade and extra battery the cost was up to the regular price of the computer. I may be underpaid, but there's a few perks in there somewhere.

Anyway, I'd love to read someone's in-depth comparison of the new 667 with the 500, as well as the unpacking process and everything else. It would probably be a good new forum topic.

Thanks!
Jeff

damnit...Apple's cost too damn much!

Started off with the fastest system for higher education:

$3,100

then add Office v. X

$200

We're at 3,300 right?

Nope, add $200+ for tax.

Sigh,
Paul
Edit: I still get my powerbook though
Please could you stay awhile to share my grief, for its such a lovely day to have to always feel this way.

Leaving next Monday again on my landscape architecture trip and was hoping to have had my machine to take with. Oh well, guess I can wait three more weeks after I go. I am very happy that will be Thanksgiving Break!

Later,

Ok I have the PB G4 500 sitting right next to the 667 both with 500MB of RAM both running 10.1 and ran the Altivec Fractal app.. the 500 scores elapsed time of 8.2 secs and 1648.4 Megaflops. The 667 scores elapsed time of 6.2 secs and 2168.6 Megaflops. This is performance of the default settings for the test. I have checked the hinges of both the 667 is a little more stiff but it is of course new so I am not sure if there is a significant difference between the two. I don't have Quake so I can't do the FPS test. Also temp after continue use of both is a lot lower on the 667 unit.

You may very well get your Ship Notification on Monday. Since it is not that much farther than my number... And it will probably ship directly from the manufaturing facility in Taoyuan City, Taiwan.

Everybody may want to take into account if they have not already that the W207xxx etc order numbers are in sequence with other orders not for powerbooks.. Probably anything that apple sells online etc. So when you have a high number, you may not be as far back as you think.

They may very well come from there once the backlog is filled. But for now, (I can't say all orders are but..) My order and many others are being shipped directly from Taoyuan City, Taiwan.

w207144 - Still being assembled. I changed my original stock order (512, 30gb) within an hour of placing it to include 48GB and 768MB RAM. I'm sure that slowed things down by a day or 2 (beyond the 10 days to 12 days change, that is).

I imagine they're exactly the same. As I understand it, the phone people basically use a version of the Apple Store.

Shipping order usually seems to be more random than everyone would like, with a slight skewing toward the earlier orders.

I called Apple this morning to try to change shipping...but I really did not need to because the lady had good news. My order # is W20854XX and even though it is not showing up as shipped she said mine was ready to move out the door today. I live in Iowa and she said that I would have it at my door by Thursday. I hope she is right! I can hardly concentrate on anything else.

Just talk to an apple rep about my order...the web page status is actually not a real time update so it will not say the most up to date info...my order says it is still in assembly however the rep told me it is ready to ship in 24 hours from their overseas location [taiwan] then it goes through customs in alaska...and should be here by the end of the week... the free ground shipping is through fed ex which is nice

I can't wait for my TiBook to arrive. When I wrote Apple, this was the reply I got. (I ordered a 667 48 GB TiBook / Order W2074759)

"We realize you are very anxious to receive your order, and we are eager to ship it. At the time you placed your order for the PowerBook G4, the estimated shipping time was 12 business days. Our goal is to ship your order within 8 business days. At this time, there have been some PowerBook G4 standard prebuilt configurations that have shipped, however, there have not been any shipments of custom-configured PowerBooks like yours."

Well... I guess I'll have to wait until Monday.

If you are the first to get a custom TiBook, please post!

Just got off the phone with an Apple rep....
My order (Ti667/512/48GB/DVD) had a ship date of 3-5 business days from the order date (10/16/01).... which would be right about.... Now. I'm told it will ship likely tomorrow, perhaps wednesday at the latest.... Order # W207379x.

Mackaikai,

I ordered a 667 and I did not modify anything on it. Hope you get yours soon, but if I do not get mine by Friday I will have to wait until I return home at Thanksgiving Break.

Damn... scratch my last post. Talked to an apple rep today who quoted me the standard 12-day ship time -- said that the 'book was nearing the final stages of completion and preparation for shipment, but refused to speculate at all on the ship date, only saying that they were being shipped faster than expected... Certainly a sharp contrast to the last call I made yesterday, when I was told it would be shipped today or tomorrow after an estimated 3-5 day ship time.

Oh well....

I'm reposting this info b/c mine now seems close to the above 207146x number.

mine is 2071955, model 667/512/DVD.

Ordered morning of 16th. Not yet shipped.

Don't know how much faith to put in the possible order of these order numbers, but I'd like to know if others with W2071900 and higher have seen their TiBooks ship.

My order number's 2090113 (oh well) and my Ti 550's still "being assembled." I waited as long as I could stand before ordering my Ti, finally making an online purchase Monday morning. No shipping yet, however. Let's hope most ship before week's end. Hope you get yours soon. Til then, we wait!

My Oct. 16 order for a 550/30G/AP (W207176x) has not yet shipped and I was just told by an Apple Store rep that it probably wouldn't ship til the end of this week at the earliest. He said there were very few orders being shipped as of now.

You guys must know this already, but Apple retail stores around the country already have a ton of both configuration of Ti PowerBooks. I got mine last Friday, Oct 19th, and they had been in since the day after they were announced (this was at that the store in Glendale, CA). For those who live around an Apple retail store, I highly recommend.

Sorry if this isn't news. Some of you guys just sound so anxious.

That's what I've heard, too. Unfortunately, many of us have placed orders and aren't in a position to cancel them and drive to the nearest Apple Store. I'd love to get mine asap, and am frustrated at the wait, but I'm not going to worry yet or focus frustration at Apple b/c the 12-days to ship is still in play: ordered the 16th. 12 business days later, that's Nov.1. So Apple is still well within what it told me at time of order. Still, we all want this sooo badly.

They didn't have any 48GB or CD-RW models. Just the standard 'Fast' and 'Faster' configurations. Incidentally, the double-ram promotion still applies to these store-bought machines.

I placed my order on Oct 20th, and have been completely impatient ever since =P Today I called to check and the person I spoke with said the planned ship date is the 5th - 7th of November, though it could be sooner It has the RAM and HD upgraded, and the web order number is in the 2088xxx range.

Oh well, I'm sure Apple is working as hard as possible! I just hate waiting.

So, I was told Tuesday and then Wednesday, and then today I was told it had already left the factory and they could not find my book. I was told I would recieve an e-mail. I did nto receive one so I called back and now the freakin idiot said it is still at the factory. You know, I have alot of faith in Apple, but this is kind of making me a little upset. I would not care how long it would take, but I just wish they woul tell me the truth on when my machine will get here. I really do not think they know what they are doing.

So that is my 2 cents worth, just a tad frustrated because on Monday I was told I would have my machine before I left on my three week school studio trip. Hope others are having better luck than I.

Hey, just a heads up, the PowerBook 667 I ordered from ClubMac on the afternoon October 16 has finally shipped. Woo hoo!

So, it seems that resellers are beginning to get stock of the new Ti's.

Order number w2071444 - Says "items partially shipped" yet I only ordered a single item, a 667 with 48GB and 768MB RAM. How can they ship part of that? Do they not install the extra RAM or something? Must be a mistake. Under the description it says in italics "no items shipped" but at the top the status has clearly moved to the last box with the words items partially shipped. Anyone else run into this problem?
