I thought fixing up my PowerBook G3/333 to download music would be a nice gift for my husband. Never having done this before, I have no idea where to start. I am working in OS 9 and have Adaptec Toast 4.1 installed. I guess my question is...where do you find these song files, etc on the internet?
Am I missing something? Is this even possible?

You don't. You're about 2 years too late. Rip your own CDs and be happy you can make your own mixes.

Hi there,
Install Virtual PC on your Mac, then install Grokster.
From there, you can drag 'n drop MP3s from the Windows desktop over onto your Mac hard-drive, and whola, you've got free MP3s! Or movies, or whatever your internet connection can drag down fast enough.
Just make sure you delete the files from VPC once they are downloaded, as there is no point having them stored under Windows and your Mac drive!
Grokster is probably the best file-sharing download program I have found, and except for some Windows programming, really the only reason I have Virtual PC.
Limewire is the alternative under Mac OS 9.x or 10, but in all honesty, it's not that great a program. I don't have much success with it, and at www.versiontracker.com you can see other peoples opinions on Limewire - they are very similar to mine.
You can find out about Grokster here: www.grokster.com
You can find out about VPC here: http://www.connectix.com/products/vpc5m.html
Cheers.

LimeWire on OS 9 is "ok".
I suggest installing OS X and then Aquisition or something of the like.

why have to install virtual pc or x??
at least try limewire (good) or drumbeat (better) first; both work with os9...

FisherKing, yup I agree, go limewire drumbeat, easiest solution.
But, like other Mac owners I know, we use VPC with Grokster running on it. Can't beat Grokster, try it one day.
