Is it possible to use the USB speakers which came with the PowerMac Cube on another USB based Mac, say a PowerBook G4?

Yes. I have successfully attached the Cube speakers to my Pismo, although they don't play at full volume because the Cube has special USB ports which allow more power to be pulled than a standard USB port.
