I moved here when i was 7 years old (i'm 16 now). At that time, we used the attic as a computer room. I have memories of seeing a gold record or something on the wall since we moved here. I wasn't particularly interested in music, though, so i didn't pay much attention to it. Now, a few days ago i went up and looked at it again. I had, hanging on the wall in my attic, a framed, Platinum copy of 'In Through The Out Door' by Led Zeppelin that was given to Dave Glew, president of Epic Records (from the little information i could find on him). I'm a big Led Zeppelin fan, so this kicks ass. I'm also just wondering how much this could be worth. The frame is a bit old and dirty, but is otherwise in good condition. The record, plaque, and little record cover look like they're in pristine condition.
Does anyone have any idea what kind of value this has? Or any information about Dave Glew? What i could find said that he was the president/chairman of Epic Records, but Zeppelin had their own label, Swan Song, and the album was distributed by Atlantic Records.
I'll see if i can get some pictures up. Now, i just have to find a place on my wall to hang it

Jesus F. Christ... that's an awesome find!
<Antique Road Show> I would put a conservitive estimate of $40,000. </Antique Road Show>
Though I don't know if I'd sell it. That'd be something cool to hand down to your kids so when they ask, "Daddy? Did music ever NOT suck?" "Yes kids, at one point, music f*cking rocked! It's about time we had a little talk about kickass music..." <que platinum Zeppelin record>

Indeed, I don't plan on selling it any time soon. I'm just more curious as to what it's worth.
I took some pictures of it:

How disappointing. I checked eBay and found quite a few. Maybe $500?
I guess it would depend on the collector.

Nope, it was in the attic when we moved in. Don't know if it belonged to the previous owners or if it's even older than that.

hot DAMN! What a great find! Usually in those circumstances, they make up about 10-20 of those for a hit like that. One for each of the band, the manager, the agent, record execs, etc.. Personally, I'd say it's probably worth a few $1000, at least.
Kick ass album too.

Oh well. Still has a high "coolness" factor.
I'd get it rematted and reframed and make it a center piece in my music room.

apparently, Dave Glew used to work with AC/DC at Atlantic records, who distributed this album, so that must be his connection to the band.

ACK!
Don't mess with it.
Leave it as-is.
The cruddy frame doesn't detract from its worth - but removing it certainly would.
Establishing a dollar value should be relatively easy. Find somebody that deals in collectible classic rock thingies and ask 'em.

How could anyone leave something that valuable behind?? I'd be very interested to discover who the previous owners of the house were. Perhaps it was Mr. Glew himself.

I know, I know. I collect antiquarian books, so I'm aware of the importance of orginal packaging and such. However, if you have it professionally done it doesn't detract from the value very much, and it looks better for display.
Good advice though, get it appraised ASAP.

Awesome find! It's definitely authentic. I do a lot of session recording and see those in a lot of the studios I work in.
I wouldn't recommend reframing it - a good cleaning should suffice.
Definitely hang on to it for a long while (ie, until after all those involved have passed away). It's valuable.
I wouldn't be surprised if relatives of the recipient would be a little peeved to see it on eBay
As a Zep fan, I'm jealous - I'd keep it forever

WOW! That's freaking awsome. One of my favorite albums... "fool in the rain" damn good drumming on that song.
I also did a search on ebay and you are right - most of them come up between 100 and 500 or so. But as you already mentioned, definitely get it appraised (and never let it out of your sight! ). From what I saw on Ebay, most of them are current artists, or has beens. Didn't see any "legends" that are no longer around (i.e who, beatles, Hendrix etc...). So this may really be worth something??
But it really doesn't matter does it? I think its most likely more valuable to you than you'll get for it in either case.
Congrats on a great find!
