Interesting article about the Pentium M and its future roll in the Mac-Intel lineup. An impressive processor clock-for-clock as compared to the Pentium 4.

When the Macintel (or whatever they'll be called) comes out, there'll be no P4 anymore as we know it. All future Intel products are based on the Pentium M architecture (except for the Itanic, of course).
I don't suffer from insanity, I enjoy every minute of it.

Dual Dual-Core Xeons with advanced Hyperthreading would be a good start for powermacs in '07.
(Powermac) 2x 2.0Ghz / 2560MB DDR400 / Radeon x800xt / 2x 36GB Raptors (Raid 0)
20" Apple Cinema Display

I don't think we will see quad cores in two years but maybe a better dual core processor for the powermacs in 07' I think apple should have provided more details when Steve Jobs announced the switch. But what does Performance Per Watt have anything to do with processor choice?

G5man: perf/watt has everything to do with processor choice. Less heat == cheaper and/or more processors. Also, it's more laptop friendly.

so then why are the PPC chips more powerful than the intel chips? or do we not know that yet?

PPC chips are more powerful than the P4 series. The P-M series are about equal to the PPC chips.
The era of anthropomorphizing hardware is over.

P-M series is more powerful per mhz and better performance per watt than PPC. @2Ghz the P-M is the same as a 3.2Ghz Pentium IV in games for example with the same grafic chip.

We're likely to see the Intel "Woodcrest" as the next Xeon in 2007. However I'm not sure if we see Hyperthreading because the pipes will be much shorter. Hyperthreading takes advantage of long pipelined processors. Intel is moving away from these long pipes making HT technology harder to implement with the same performance gains.

The desktop chips are codemaned "Conroe" they should have a 4MB cache that is shared amongst the cores and be based off of "Merom" which is supposedly %30 faster per clock than the current Banias/Dothan cores. Toss in fabbing at 65nm and you have a dual core part that should consume less than 90 watts. Say goodbye to water cooling.
