I decided to get a black MacBook, since I thought it looked much slicker (and the larger HDD). You?

I like the black Mac myself, but I wasn't (still wouldn't) willing to pay an extra two hundred just for the color and what 20 more gig of space.

I've been very happy with the white and while some initial models had issues with discoloration, the black models haven't gotten off scott free. Seems some (very few) have complained that the black around some section of the macbook does tend to flake off. I don't own a black one so I cannot confirm or deny this.

The black does look sharp though

I have a 2.0 GHz white MacBook and used the money I saved to max out the ram at 2 GB. At some point later, I might upgrade the hdd since its so easy.

I'm in the same boat, I love the look of the Black MacBook, especially because it just seems like the "right" color for Apple laptops, ever since the PowerBook 500 "Blackbird". But I think that I have a hard time justifying the price premium just for black, and the white ones look good too. It would be easier for me if I thought the white MacBook looked ugly.

I think my only other problem with the black MacBook is that if I'm going to justify spending $1399 on it (with academic pricing), I have a hard time not saying that I should just spend $400 and get a MacBook Pro at $1799.

I really wanted a black one...still kinda do. But it shows grease and fringer prints like mad. White may have been the better choice for me.

I bought the black...coming from years of using Thinkpads, and before that the "dark" older Apple laptops, 170, 180c, 540c, 5300c and Duo 280c, it just fit me. It does show fingerprints and smudges, but cleans up easily with a water moistened soft cloth. I agree with those who say the black premium is a bit too steep...not the best value in a MacBook.

Definitely black... did I consider saving the cash by going w/ the white? Sure. But when it comes to a purchase like this you're better off getting exactly what you want. Don't compromise - you'll regret it. I'm very very happy with the black.

I prefer the white color... it's Apple's unique color. It acctually stays pretty clean (vs. smudges and fingerprints on the black.) The lower price is just a bonus.
