Same problem, can't log in to messenger at all.
Only hint of problem comes from Hotmail homepage where there is a statement stating that they are having problems with messenger at present but hope to have it sorted soon!

I think the problem is with your software- I have been connecting to msn all week.
On a similar note, has anyone had any problems connecting with Yahoo Messenger? I have had trouble getting that to work for over a week now. Any news 'bout that?

If you ever want to know the status of the MSN servers, check out this page.
MSN Messenger 2.0 for Mac does seem to be a little more prone to disconnects and service problems than the Windows version (well duh, it's Microsoft).
And as Ernie already found out, if you ever have problems with it taht aren't server related, dump your Messenger Prefrences file. It usually fixes things.
