I prefer not to work. You can't get rich working, and you spend all your time doing something for somebody else. The government takes part of your salary and gives it to people who don't even belong in this country. It really is pointless.

In most of the cases, false.

But anyway, I don't think I would want to work for Wegmans Food Markets. I like computers, not food.

Is this the same list as the Forbes one that comes out every year? Good to see my current employer made it (FedEx), but my previous one did not (IBM).

If you have a subscription to Fortune you can see the full list and each companies' explanation as to what makes them so great to work for. For example, Starbucks' explanation is:
The coffee behemoth is justly famous for its generous benefits. One example: Part-timers and their same- or opposite- sex partners receive comprehensive health coverage. Hypnotherapy? Covered. Naturopathy? Ditto.

Starbucks should give those benefits, for the outrageous prices they charge for coffee.

I suspect that what they charge for coffee has something to do with what people are willing to pay for it.

You're 100% correct. Another booming business is bottled water, for which people are willing to pay $5/gallon and more, because they need to boost their fragile egos by being seen with the latest in cool. To each his own.

Thanks

To stay on topic here's Microsoft's explanation:
Generosity toward employees extends to restricted stock grants, medical and dental benefits, and matches for charitable donations. Maybe that's why nearly 300,000 people applied for jobs here last year.
And Wegmans Food Markets, ranked number one:
The unusual motto of this privately held grocery chain is "Employees first, customers second." The Wegman family's rationale: When employees are happy, customers will be too. For more details, see The Wegmans Way.

It's an amazing thing how americans tend to forget their inmigrant roots.

Wegmans really is that good. We've been shopping there for years. Anyone who says "It's just a grocery store, they're all the same" obviously hasn't been to a Wegmans. And the company does a lot for the community here in Rochester. My family in NYC are impressed every time they end up in a Wegmans when they come to visit, and they can't wait for Wegmans to open a store down there.

The week that issue of Fortune came out, they put big displays with copies of the magazine at the entrance to each store. They must have ordered tons of magazines just to put at the doors. They sure are proud of that ranking.

Baloney. The prices came first, the customers followed.

Actually what the hell was it with Seattle and the espresso craze in the 80's?

They went coffee crazy and weren't just Starbucks. Espresso was everywhere. You get off the plan and there was an espresso stand literally right there! It was insane, and then Starbucks went and dominated the non already espresso with their poorly made stuff served in *ick* paper cups and that's that.

And why Seattle? Because it was so boring they had to find a way to keep people awake?

I work for a "natural foods" store, our biggest competitor is Whole Foods (#30) My company is not even listed...(not surprised) I have worked for this company for 3 and a half years now and my friend who works for Albertsons who has worked there 2 and a half years gets paid about $2 more an hour then I do, doing the same damn job.... my company is going down the shitter, it blows... oh, and i was told I was the highest paid in my department too, so you gotta wonder how my co-workers survive... I live at home so most of my income is expendable... I guess I should not complain that much, but it's a pisser to see my friend being at the bottom oh his pay scale, and he is making what my pay scale maxes out at...

keep in mind this is all below $13 an hour

I need a new job! (for other reasons then pay, but not excluding it)

Business projections are based on what they feel a customer is willing to pay for their product. They don't just make up a price, and hope that customers will come in; they check competition and survey consumers. Basic marketing 101.

From what I gather, companies/organizations have to apply for inclusion and have to put together a rather elaborate and detailed application (the reason I know this is because the large non-profit I work for applied and didn't make the top 100, mostly because it can't offer private-sector levels of compensation). So, take the list with a grain of salt - there are probably a lot of good companies that don't bother applying.

Thats Crazy, Starbucks pay employees 60 USD a month in China.

And the coffee is more expensive than anywhere else
Looks like they only share the wealth with white straight people.

By your logic, you yourself "don't even belong in this country." I certainly hope we US taxpayers aren't supporting you.
