Hello,
My Airport time capsule broke down, I'm so lucky I have cloud-backup to restore to another usb 2 hdd. Now I need another drive and can't decide what to get, do I buy a thunderbolt 3 drive for time-machine and my music collection or better buy a RAID system. RAID in TB3 would be very expensive so that would be a USB 3.0 RAID, I have everything in a cloud backup also but just to be sure ?

RAID is used for extra-large volumes and/or redundancy.
Sounds like all your stuff will fit on a single normal-sized drive. So you don't need RAID for volume size.
As you have an offsite (cloud) backup, you're good on redundancy too.
Don't bother with a RAID setup.

Agreed.
If it’s under 4 terabytes, I’d get a 4 terabyte drive and a USB 3 enclosure.
If it’s over that, but under 8 terabytes, I’d get two 4 terabyte drives and two USB 3 enclosures. I would use them as two drives, not as a RAID.
With a few exceptions, RAID is for when you need even more than that.

I should have put a little more here (as reader50 pointed out to me).
There are hard drives available which are much larger than 4 terabytes, but I’m very conservative about these sorts of things.
Manufacturers have been making 4 terabyte drives for a long time, and have effectively perfected the process. They’ve had less time with larger models.
With 4 you’re about as safe as you can get. 6 is probably close to that, now. 8 is probably fine, as I said, I’m conservative. I wouldn’t go larger, but that’s me.
