Are you a Mac purist? A Mac purist is someone who does at least 4 of the following:
~defends the one-button-mouse in the face of fierce opposition
~still believes in the Megahertz myth
~doesn't want to buy a Mac with an intel
~reminesces about the 7/8/9 days
~watches keynotes
~tries to convert people to Mac
~has an Apple sticker on their car
~complains fiercely about every new Apple product released, only to fall in love with it a week later

I don't think most "Mac purists" would wist over OSes 7-9; rather, they boasted about them *until* OS X came out, at which point even die-hard Mac users who were stuck in 9 thanks to Adobe and Quark were villified in these here forums.

You're right about the criticism vs. lovin' it a week later though.

1) One button is horrible. Exclude my parents.
2) Never did. Doing great stuff on a 1.25 GHz mini
3) I CAN'T WAIT!!1!!!1!!
4) Will never forget. 7.2.1 was as solid as X
5) Always, H.264 rocks.
6) I don't try, I do.
7) I don't have a car. Once I had. And I had two stickers on it...
8) differs

- I ran over my one button puck mouse with my old neon the day after my 2 button mouse arrived.
- The mhz myth is true, but there's no way a 1ghz mac can compete with a 3.x ghz pc. mhz for mhz, macs seem faster to me.
- Why? I remember people saying that when IBM was going to start producing chips for apple. That's just silly. I am worried about the potential for more viruses and crap like that though.
- I miss the days where information was easy to find on the internet, because 'consumerism' hadn't caught onto it yet. 92-98 or so. Not banners everywhere. Not pointless ad websites clogging search engines. Just people sharing information and a few businesses. Also, hotline, when it was mac only.
- I watched one once. I don't get it.
- Stupid people like to remain stupid. For example, look at Kilbey or all the other SUV enthusiasts. They scoff factual information and cling to obvious lies on some stupid website.
- I hate stickers on cars.
- Apple crap is overpriced. I get everything used.

1) Yes and no. I believe that Macs should continue to ship with one button mice if only because the concept behinc them is easier and the OS is designed in a way that one button is sufficient most of the time. However, I love the multibutton support throughout OS X.

2) Absolutely. Because it isn't a myth. Things like cache, pipeline stages and latency have more of an effect on performance than raw MHz.

3) I have no problem buying a Mac with Intel inside. I do, however, have a problem buying a Mac with x86 inside. So until Intel decides to dump their 30 year old architecture, I wont be embracing the Intel switch.

4) I do have a warm spot in my heart for 8.6...

5) Religiously. Surrounded by junk food. Naked. Alone.

6) Not really. I did once, but the closed minded usually remain so. Getting any change in perspective out of them usually involves more work than it is worth. I just enjoy my machine.

7) Not car at the moment, but I've got the stickers ready.

8) Sometimes.

1. I think the mouse design is "bad enough" as it is, adding buttons, wheels, and clicky things to it just screws it up even more

2. As Lateralus said, there's a lot more to it than MHz

3. I don't want an x86 mac because I think the architecture's emphasis on "compatibility" has gotten so bad that it's preventing any advancement.

4. I never owned a mac that ran OS 7, 8, or 9 -- though I do find the interface interesting.

5. Sometimes I do, sometimes I don't, I stopped watching them almost altogether when they stopped being live.

6. I admit to it, because I got fed up with helping people with Windows problems.

7. Not yet, because I'm too lazy to find my stickers and do that.

8. Nope, my opinion on Apple's products tends to remain the same, for example I still think the iMac G4 looked way better than the iMac G5 does. I'm extremely against "Pentium" anything making it into a Mac though, because the PPC chips are about the only thing Apple had left that was "fresh" in comparison to the PC market's junk, it's too bad that Apple's placing the emphasis/blame on the CPU speed, because I know there's a HECK of a lot that they could change in the current powermacs/books without swapping the CPU to make the machines more attractive!
In a realm beyond site, the sky shines gold, not blue, there the Triforce's might makes mortal dreams come true.

A Mac purist would still be moaning over the switch to IBM chips.

I still miss the simplicity of Classic's interface. Yet then I loathed how 99% of third party applications looked very cheap. Aqua allows even the worst application interface designers to dress their programmes half decently :-)
In vino veritas.

1) Nope, I prefer my multi-button trackball when not on the scroll pad.
2) At times, though I still feel OSX is a better OS than Windows, MhZ be damned.
3) Wrong. As I said earlier, to use that line, you could say a purist is someone who never used IBM chips.
4) OSX is a far superior OS.
5) When I can.
6) Yes.
7) No.
8) No. I complain if complaining is warranted but I try and not have a knee-jerk reaction to everything.

You left out a few.

~ never owned a Windows computer.
~ has more than Mac.
~ remembers the dark days of Apple.
~ always laughs at Ballmer jokes.
~ has/does own multiple iPods.
~ has a @mac.com email address.
~ visiting an Apple Store is a near-religious experience.
~ has second thoughts about a job if it means using Windows.
~ visits Mac-related forums throughout the day.
~ gets sweaty when the Apple Store is closed even if no need to buy anything.
~ window shops at the Apple Store frequently.

- Never have, never will. But I use the Bluetooth Apple mouse.

- Mhz isn't important anymore. Any Wintel PC is teh sux0rz compared to a dual 2,7 G5, imho.

- Don't care. If all my fav. apps work, it's secure and it uses OS X, it can run on horsesh1t for all I care.

- 7 was cool, 8 was a great system and should have been dveloped into 8.8 instead of 9.x, which sucked, imo.

- Yep. Always a highlight of the season.

- You bet! Been successfull a couple of times too...

- Not my car, but my board...

- I have never really complained about any Mac software. It's either useful to me, or not. Oh wait, - iPhoto sucks. Yep.

Have you been touched by his noodly appendage?

I go from door to door asking people to convert.... I pass out flyers, and have given all my posessions away in order to buy more Mac stuff....

I pray to Mac, and Steve the Almighty Mac-a-Rushti...

Ok, I'm not doing that, but I am pretty into the whole Mac thing. It's cool.

Well. I'm not one to go around insulting SUV drivers, Smokers, Metermaids, and I don't call people retards in real life experiences. I'm polite, and I give people positive feelings. I can turn a frown upside down, and I'm not a weenie like you, so I'm not affraid to admit that.

I don't have much of a life right now if you consider my career... but I have a wife that loves me, a dog that is amazing, a roof over my head, friends I can depend on, a decent job, and no real anger issues like yourself. Although, I'll attribute to being snippy lately to my quitting the tobacco.... what is your excuse?

Edit: You do realize that people who smoke really want to die right? Otherwise they wouldn't smoke. So, next time you see a smoker, have a little pity, if you are capable.

Ah. So it's just your internet personality that calls people stupid and chastises them, baits them, and insults them when you disagree with them. Way to be consistent. In my opinion, you're the insecure one. You just admitted you never tell anybody your piece of mind because you're polite (or afraid of confrontation), and yet you come here and POOF! You can magically argue with me, insult me, and call me a retard. Wow! At least I have the balls to say what I think and stand up for my beliefs in real life, as well as the 'interweb'.

I don't have much of a life right now if you consider my career... but I have a wife that loves me, a dog that is amazing, a roof over my head, friends I can depend on, a decent job, and no real anger issues like yourself. I'm not snippy. I'm just bored. I post about things that are a bit more exciting than sitting around, which usually happens to be things that piss me off. I also post things that make me happy (State fair pictures, other stuff), but it seems nobody really responds to those as much as some of my other topics.

Edit: You do realize that people who smoke really want to die right? Otherwise they wouldn't smoke. So, next time you see a smoker, have a little pity, if you are capable.
How many years have we known smoking is addictive and dangerous? I'm sorry, but I really don't feel that much pity. The information has been out for decades. And I feel less than pity, I feel pissed off and angry when some lazy son of a bitch throws his trash out his window because he 'doesn't want to make his car stink', which is the #1 excuse I've heard from smokers for throwing their butts out, actually.

If smokers put their butts in ashtrays, I'd have much less of a problem with them, but it's absolutely disgusting. Walk down a city street. Look down. On one city block in Madison, I counted over 200 cigarette butts laying around. 1 coke can. One small piece of cardboard. Why is it that the idea of throwing trash in the garbage is okay, throwing cans in the recycling bin is okay, but putting a cigarette butt into an ashtray is just so hard to understand?

I figured you'd have a stupid response like that since I pretty much just pointed out what's wrong with you. You're the insecure one. You're the one who acts like a totally different (spineless) person in real life.

Whatever. I've never put anybody on my ignore list before, but congrats. Cya budster.

You all have poor memories! The best chip was the descendant of the 6502 which was the 65816. The next best was the 68050 and then the Power Pc. Intel has always made the least efficient chip requiring high clock speed to remain competitive. Jobs wants to make money and doesn't care. I am torn as a holder of Apple stock and a user of Apple Computers. sam
