U.S. Treasury: There Will Be A Woman On The $10 Bill – Consumerist

Oh wait, it's definitely going to be a woman? It should be someone who was involved in government... as much as I like Rosa Parks or Eleanor Roosevelt, someone elected. Someone who was first, preferably in finance...

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hattie_Caraway was the first senator (serving more than a day anyhow)

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Margaret_Chase_Smith was until recently the longest serving female senator. Although she started as a replacement for a husband who died in office, she was a great senator, influential, and paved the way for many women today. I did not realize until reading the article how much she was involved in the Navy.

First woman treasurer:

Roosevelt because she was a big supporter of the blacks and helped to fast track the civil rights movement.
Jean Kirkpatrick because she was aggressive and handed the 3rd world clowns their rear ends at the UN.

I'd rather they just left it alone.

Besides Susan B. Anthony and Sacajawea, 100% of US currency has been white guys right?

I really would prefer if they stuck with 18th century types, but that narrows the field significantly.

There was a full sized silver dollar which had someone for a short span IIRC.

There have also been metaphorical gals, like Lady Liberty.

Edit: wait... those are allegories, right? I always get them mixed up.

Kirkpatrick gets disqualified just on this:
She was known for the "Kirkpatrick Doctrine", which advocated U.S. support of anticommunist governments around the world, including authoritarian dictatorships, if they went along with Washington's aims
Ends justify the means BS thats been biting us in the ass in the decades since.

Lady Liberty. At one time, US coins did not feature portraits of real people, because we didn't want to advertise American royalty figures. Even the Indian Head was a composite of several models.

Roosevelt and Kirkpatrick are both great women, but Kirkpatrick is too recent. I'd rather go historical/educational. You could add Abigail Adams, Elizabeth Cady Stanton, etc etc... there are lots of cool women who did cool things, but for government currency I think it should be a woman who broke the ceiling. We don't change money often, presumably it will be the same for a hundred years at least.

Otherwise may as well be a stamp contest.

IIRC that was the coin minted the exact same size as a quarter. Brilliant.

Despite moving on from cash money, I loves me some Sacajawea dollars and always carry a few for tipping at places which don't let you put a tip on the card.

We should remove Jackson and Grant and replace them with women. Maybe Tubman and Helen Keller, respectively?

Grant, of course, makes me think of Wild Wild West, which makes me think we need to find someone with the name "Artemis" and put them on there so people realize it's a ****ing girl's name.
