Indeed.
Who cares? They had almost zero market share here anyway.

Nasrudin sat on a river bank when someone shouted to him from the opposite side: "Hey! how do I get across?" "You are across!" Nasrudin shouted back.

Fore example Apple UK is not <a href="http://www.apple.co.uk" target="_blank">http://www.apple.co.uk</a> as you might think but <a href="http://www.apple.com/uk/" target="_blank">http://www.apple.com/uk/</a>

Looks like Apple just let it go and some cybersquatting freak has jumped on it. However Apple will be able to successfully get it back legaly in Germany where you can assert domain ownership if the domain applies to you company.
p.s. I like the "versendlich" in the message <img border="0" title="" alt="[Wink]" src="wink.gif" /> Jemand sprischt doitsch noch schleschter als isch.
p.p.s.Apple has a fairly good marketshare in Germany, and it has been Apple's best growing market over the past two years AFAIK.

Massive PR tour a couple of months ago, geared at professionals. rented out huge halls (the CCH in Hamburg) for seminars. An acquaintance held a talk at one. There were SIX people there, ALL OF WHOM already used Macs.
Somebody had forgotten to advertise beyond a couple of flyers in a select few authorized Apple dealers. Brilliant.

Maybe you confuse it with Switzerland?

Sometimes Apple is successful despite the best efforts of their various dependancies etc. However, the story is less spectacular for Apple and more spectacular for Germany when one considers that sh-it like this happens in Germany with monotonous regularity. I find it amazing that the German economy actually survives despite a huge troop of absolutely incompetent baboons in media/marketing who have no idea whatsoever what they're doing but are capable of convincing managers etc, who also have no idea what they are doing, that it is all the next best thing. In my experience, a lot of new economy types managed to save their butts , despite their uselessness and are still running and ruining many companies.
