I bought an iBook Clamshell 300mHz (no firewire), and I'm attempting to boot off of my OS X 10.4 CD's using XpostFacto. Everything is working perfectly until I reboot the machine, to initiate the installation (with XPF), when I get this screen:
What gives? I think this "boot screen" is pretty uncommon, and I also believe this means that the boot source thinks that the hard drive isn't compatible/capable. However, I have done this once in the past, and it worked flawlessly.
Does anyone have any ideas?

It could mean a variety of things (from your hard drive not being properly partition, to the OS X installer not recognizing your system). Have you in fact tried XPostfacto as the title of the thread implies?

Yes, I'm sorry. I thought I was clear that the screen was the result of the booting from Xpostfacto.
I wasn't aware that your hard drive had to be partitioned, as I have done this before without partitioning it...
Not to mention I am not too savvy with OS9, and I wouldn't know where to begin when wanting to partition it.

It seems as if it's not even recognizing XPF, and it's attempting to boot right form the CD, however, I can restart and hold down C and it actually boots into the OSX installer. BIZARRE!

Very odd. Well, if that doesn't work, there's a somewhat more involved installation method too.
OS 9 isn't that special: if you have an OS 9 CD, you can boot off it, and there is a program called Apple Drive Setup in Utilities that you can use to partition with. Given that your drive's pretty small, it may not help too much, but having a minimal OS 9 install on separate partition for emergency booting may be useful.

Anyone have anything else? I forgot what the command for it to boot off a USB external ROM, but I think its C... or Option...

It's supposed to be option (well actually, that should give you a boot menu, allowing you to choose from all possible bootable drives/media). Might also give you a chance to boot from XPF installation on you internal drive.

Well, I finally got it. It wouldn't boot (somehow) off of the external USB DVD drive, so I got my hands on OSX on CD, hacked the disc image of Disc 1 and we're good to go!

Interesting. Makes sense though given that most PPC Macs won't boot off of external USB drives. Glad you got it to work.
