I'm looking for an alternative for Entourage in regards to email in OS X. I'm interested in what clients everyone else uses and your reasons for using. I just need a client that can do POP3/IMAP and decent filtering. Thanks.

Hey, OJ!

I use Mail.app, though a lot of people seem to have problems with it. I couldn't find any that would annoy me too much. Some people complain that it deleted some of their mail, but this only happens if you leave your messages on the imap account in mail.app and then check for your mail in say, Microsoft Entourage and don't have the Leave Messages On Server checkbox selected in your accounts option. But once you can taker care of this, Mail.app is perfect.

But that's my opinion. I receive about 30-40 emails a day and Mail.app can handle them perfectly.

Hope this helps.

I found that Mail works quite well although if I add more than a dozen or so addresses to a group, it will not "send" mail to that group.
I am now using the new carbon version of Eudora which offers better formatting and filtering functions and does not appear to have any serious deficiencies. I would recommend it.

As a long time user of Eudora, I would give another vote to Eudora. Hopefully however, they will get their butts moving and offer some OS X features (though you can use services in Eudora).

I used Mail.app for about 2 months at one point, but it just doesn't have the filtering capabilities of Eudora. More importantly, I hate how it indexes your mailboxes all the time. That being said, it is pretty good if you don't have lots and lots of old mail...

I also give a hearty thumbs up to Pine... A great program. I like it more and more everyday.

Mail[.app] for a GUI one, and pine if I'm in a command-line mood. Mail doesn't have any deficiencies that affect me, and I like the interface.

I'm another one who would cast his vote for Eudora... I've used this program for years, and I think even though the interface might be in need of a revamp, overall its the best thing going. I really want to like Mail, but it has too many deficiencies (filters, leaving mail on the server for x numbers of day, speed with large mailboxes -- indexing) to be my email program of choice. Of course, I've had problems with Eudora too... which is why I was/am trying mail. I am using Eudora 5.1b23 (waiting for my University's site license to be renewed), and it seems to choke on HTML formatted email... anything with a lot of graphics just causes it to quit. I know I could turn off in-line graphics, but that defeats the purpose of HTML email (which, unfortunately many companies I deal with seem to like to send). Anyone using 5.1.1, has this problem been addressed? Thanks!

Cheers!
Chris
