After updating to 10.1.4 MySQL does not work any more. This is the error I get.

Warning: MySQL Connection Failed: Can't connect to local MySQL server through socket '/tmp/mysql.sock' (2) in /Library/WebServer/Documents/huskers/desktop.php on line 4
fail to open database

I assume that apple has made the install remove the mysql deamon or something. has anyone had this problem and what kind of work arounds are there toget it back up with out losing my current database.

Sounds more like the MySQL server is not running.

The upgrade could have overwritten your server startup script.

To see if it's running, in the terminal type 'ps ax' and look for a line with 'safe_mysqld'. if that's not there then mysql server is not running and you'll need to start it.

If it wont start look for a legacy lock file to throw away.
