I just wonder why they picked Brown as their first color. It's like, not only do they want to fail, but they want to be known as the toilet mp3 player. I wouldn't even waste $10 on one.

I actually want a brown iPhone that is a bit rubbery. I love my iPhone, but it would be better if it were a bit rubbery so it would not slip so much. And brown is very nice and organic. Apple's products, by virtue of all the metals they use, are too industrial looking.

Couldn't you just shop around for a brown colored silicone sleeve?
Brown for gadgets suck for most people. Silver, black and chrome are generic enough for people not to hate.

I don't want to use a case on my iPhone. I use it bare naked. It is so much better this way. Forget those silicon and hybrid rubber cases that get hair and dirt stuck to them constantly, as well as compromise the design. They are a silly economy.

Yeah, like design219 says, just paint it. You are the only person I have ever heard ask for Brown.

Fry's should do the same. They don't even have any on display at the local Fry's I go to.
In fact, the last time I was at Walmart, I don't recall seeing the Zune display.
It doesn't look good for Zune. It's only a matter of time before the end.

Guess I'd take one for free...
Spray paint it white, hack it and call it an external hard drive. (Seriously. 30GB HD. Had 240 MB left yesterday...)

I've noticed the Zune display at Wal-Mart doesn't actually have Zunes behind the glass, but foam cutouts of the Zune face, as opposed to the actual iPods in the iPod display. I'm assuming people are going to be pretty disappointed when they open their Zune box to find something 5x thicker than what they though they saw on display.

And the fact that it was too expensive and it would only be a hobby, not to be taken seriously in the corporate world.

The show "Chuck" had a great jab at the Zune's expense this week:
Chuck “Morgan, hey, uh, buddy do we carry any rush cds in the store?”
Morgan “No need I got’em all on my Zune”
Chuck “You have a Zune?”
Morgan “Are you kidding me, no, no, I’ll grab my iPod”

I was watching that episode with my sister and cracked up at that line. She just turned to me and asked, "What's a Zune?"

Oddly enough, I love my Zune. I received an 8GB flash unit to review, and I LOVE it. The interface is beautiful, Microsoft is nice enough to provide the same firmware updates to all versions (including the original one without the touch pad), and it's all around pretty rad.
The Zune software leaves a bit to be desired, but every revision from MS makes it better. I won't deny that the first Zune was pretty crappy, but Microsoft has improved it significantly since its initial release. When my 60GB iPod Photo finally craps, I'm replacing it with a Zune.

I honestly thought only pre-teen girls made this much of a fuss over someone else's choice of plastic bauble that plays MP3s.
Okay, make that pre-teen girls... and Mac fans.

You have to understand, Crash, that at least as far as we long-term Apple fanatics are concerned, we still harbor the scars of being the lone voices in the wilderness who cried out in support of Apple when it was not at all fashionable to do so. With the Second Golden Age/the Second Coming of Jobs - and particularly the iPod/iPhone revolutions - we finally have gotten to taste the vicarious fruits of Apple's great successes. We particularly revel in the failure of those competing products that were once hailed as potential iMac/iPod/iPhone killers. The taste of victory is sweet indeed, and for many of us Apple's victories are in part ours as well.

Entire schools of marketing must exist to study achieving that level of... corporate ass-kissing.
Seriously.
To me, a consumer 'victory' is when there are tons of competing products that each push the other's quality and feature sets higher, and prices lower in order to compete. That's a consumer victory.
But living vicariously through the 'victories' of some huge corporation because it sells more plastic baubles than some other huge company... errrrr
And giving a good crap how "fashionable" a product is... errr.... like I said, I thought only pre-teen girls....

Oh, please. The iPod has nothing to do with fanboyism, given that everyone and their brother has one. When I ride the bus in the morning, at least a third of other riders have iPods. I just like the Zune a lot more than I expected to. It has nothing to do with who manufactured it.

Everything I've ever seen has led me to the conclusion that Zune owners are people that actively wanted to avoid the iPod.

No, I forgot about the Zune and never looked backed.
Though the "Welcome to the stupid" thing was kinda fun.
