Anyone have 'em? Working on something where it could really come in handy...I'd like to give it a try.

I got accepted into the beta. I've been playing around with it and it's really nice.
I haven't seen an "invite to spreadsheet" type link, but I found that if I invite anyone, who has a @gmail.com account, to my spreadsheet, it will let them into http://spreadsheets.google.com from then on. So that's pretty much unlimited invites.
Start posting @gmail.com accounts if you want in.

If you "sign up to try" Google Spreadsheets using a gmail account, then it seems like you get accepted pretty quickly. That's what I did, and I got my access the same day.

I also got accepted right away using my gmail account.
It doesn't work in Safari yet, but it works perfectly in Firefox. The feature set is extremely limited, but it is surprisingly responsive. Maybe like MS Excel on a G3 running OS X.

Yet another crumby Google product which is destined to stay in beta for eternity.

The more Google grows, the more it seems that it's emulating MS. Flood the world with a bazillion products with unclear value and hope one does well.
However, MS actually makes good money on its core products and services, justifying its stock valuation. I still don't understand why Google is worth so much.

Perhaps I'm missing something but why use a spreadsheet online when 99% of computer uses have one on their computer (and the majority of them have Excel).
While I have no love for MS, excel is an excellent tool and I just don't see the desire to use something else.

One big reason is that you can host a spreadsheet on Google's servers and collaboratively edit it without E-mailing it around and having multiple verisons in people's inboxes....

@n8236, sent.
@Maflynn, I agree, but google has one thing which I think is really nice. More than one person can view and edit a spreadsheet at the same time. You can chat to each other at the same time. (Dork, beat me to it by a minute)

What happens when you take your laptop somewhere without internet access. Say, on a trip or to a presentation.
The only way around this problem would be to export it to excel, but that kinda defeats the point.

What is a bit annoying to me is that if I try to load a 300k CSV or Excel spreadsheet (with 1800 rows), it says its too big. That's not a very large spreadsheet.

Why are you all asking for invites? Just sign up on the Google Spreadsheet page. If you have a gmail address already, you'll be approved in short order....

Colour me confused about this whole approval/invite thing. I simply went to spreadsheets.google.com and logged in using my gmail ID and was taken straight to a blank spreadsheet, imported one from my Mac and then shared it out without any approval process.
