Right now we're thinking about moving to Toronto again. If we can convince these pesky immigration authorities we're worth letting into the country - last time I was there it was on a student visa, so things were easier.

airport stopovers do not count as country visits. If so, then Germany (frankfurt) would rate a big, fat zero on my scale, simply for the terrible security holdup in the lufthansa outbound section. 20-40 minutes per person? You've got to be kidding me.

I come back to you now, at the turn of the tide.

HOLY ****!!! THERE ARE SOME SERIOUS HARDCORE TRAVELERS HERE!!!

When I clicked on this thread I was thinking it would be filled with people saying they've never been outside the US, and that would amaze all with my short list (see below). Damn, now I feel like an ethnocentric uneducated loser!

USA
Canada
England
Spain

Well, in my defense, if you're going to spend a chunk of time in Europe, there are a lot of countries in a small space and you can really rack up your number that way. Countries in Europe are like states here in the US. But I am still amazed!!

Very true. I think my record was driving in six countries in 24 hours. Britain ---> The Netherlands ---> Belgium ---> France ---> Luxembourg ---> Germany.

I was a tired puppy when I got home, though.

I was going to point that out myself, where you can hop on a train in europe and cover the same distance as from Missouri to California and see all of Europe.

but regardless, here is my paltry list:

US
Canada
Mexico
Germany
St. Thomas and Puerto Rico (does that count? dunno)

a much larger list would include countries I'd LOVE to visit:

Japan
Italy
Egypt
Great Britain
Holland
Namibia
Phillipines
China
Bosnia-herzegovina
Australia
Greece
Finland
Iceland

I just don't have the kind of scratch that would allow me to do so.

Egypt (5+ month- study abroad during the gulf war of all times to be there. What fun, no tourists .. felt like I had run of the place. I had an apt in Cairo rather than a dorm,.. so I guess I technically "lived" there)
Kenya (for a week vacation when living in Misr)

Where I want to go:
Western Europe SOON, I hope .. just to get it "under my belt"
India
South America

I did most all of my international travel prior to age 25 (just turned 33)... but I'm definitely getting "the itch" again. I knew it had been too long when I realized that my passport had expired

Amazing! I would love to visit all those countries. How do you all do it? Vacations, work? It would be interesting to know. I have been to most of the states in the US but never out of the country. I hope to go somewhere in Europe next year. Switzerland maybe? Greece?
