I have 15" PB connected to external 17" ASD via the DVI-ADC adapter.

If I work the PowerBook lid open, using 17" ASD as additional working space (not mirroring the display), everything is just fine with the picture quality.

If I close the PowerBook lid and press a key on external keyboard, the external monitor is detected and it shows the PB picture, but the picture quality suffers - the window shadows are pixelated, the dock background is "noisy" etc. Opening the color picker in Photoshop is like a nightmare - the gradient is so pixelated, you can barely even understand the different shades of a color.

Is there something wrong with the adapter? Or is it really that PowerBook picture cannot be reflected decently to external ASD if the lid is closed? Or am I doing something wrong?

I think it's just that it's running at the wrong resolution when you close the powerbook's lid. If you go to the monitors control panel, does it let you choose a different resolution?

Nope, it's not the resolution - the PB detects the monitor and adjusts to only possible resolution that there is when you have PB and 17" ASD - 1280x1024. It cannot even be changed to anything else, and the colors are set to millions also. So it's not that.
