Hi everyone,

I installed 10.3 on a PowerBook from stratch today and then installed the 10.3.5 combo update on top of that. I then installed all the updates available from Software Update such as iCal, iPhoto, and so on, including Java 1.4.2.

I then noticed in the /Applications/Utilities/Java folder that there are now both the Java 1.3.1 plugin and Java 1.4.2 plugin. Is this normal? Should the 1.3.1 plugin have been removed after the update to 1.4.2 or is it in there for a reason?

Thanks!

This is correct.

Safari > Help > Installed Plug-ins

You'll note the "Java Plug-in is v1.3.1"; however, the "Java Plug-in for Cocoa is v1.4.2"....

It's there for applets that request 1.3.1

And, I think Camino still uses that plugin by default.
signatures are a waste of bandwidth
especially ones with political tripe in them.

Just to make it absolutely clear - it is necessary to have both plug-ins as there is still Java software in existence that runs on the 1.3.x base rather than the 1.4.x base. It is therefore perfectly normal to have both.
