iBook G4 with Panther seems to only show icons and no text whatsoever. Restarted in single-user and ran fsck -fy and that didn't fix it. Tried disktil repairPermissions root_device in single-user and still didn't fix. iBook is stock with 30 GB HD with only 1.9 GB free.
Any suggestions?

Looks like your installation is corrupt, for whatever reason.
1) Back up everything immediately.
2) Try reapplying the latest combo update.
3) If that fails, Archive & Install
(it's diskutil, not disktil, but I suspetc that that was a typo)

The new Mac Pro has up to 30 MB of cache inside the processor itself. That's more than the HD in my first Mac. Somehow I'm still running out of space.

That's too little free disk space. And that's a Finder display issue of some sort.

Installed new OS on external FireWire drive and then Using migration assistant I moved all the user data then went back the other way. Everything seems to be working now. Thanks.
