So, I go outside this evening to get some dinner. As I sit in the car and wait for my friend, I see a shadow crossing back and forth across the outside patio light. I tell her to see if it's a bat and it's not, it's a bird. The bird keeps bouncing off the walls and the going back to the light. I think it's a finch.

So, we say- ok, maybe it got attracted by the light when we turned it on. Let's turn the light off. As I go around, another bird flies in, either chasing the bird or joining in the frenzy. We are creeped out, turn off the light and leave for dinner.

We come back and the bird is still there doing the same thing in the dark.

We tried to catch it and push it away, but it comes back.

WTF is wrong with this bird and what do we do? It's gonna die hittin the walls and such.

My stupid iPhone game: Nesen Probe, it's rather old, annoying and pointless, but it's free.
Was free. Now it's gone. Never to be seen again.
Off to join its brother and sister apps that could not
keep up with the ever updating iOS. RIP Nesen Probe.

birds have a magnetic guidance system for use in migration. maybe something in or around your house is emitting so many magnet waves (enough for the birds to be effected, but not humans or anything metallic) that it is confusing the hell out of the birds, and they exhibit the behavior that you are witnessing. just a thought.

Maybe it's trying to catch moths attracted to the light? Another possibility is that the light fixture was its roost and you lit a fire under its feet by turning on the bulb.

It does the same lights on or off and there are very few moths rights now. (Kinds chilly)

I also have a single Canadian Goose I'm watching down the road that won't leave - in case any actual bird experts chime in.

My crazy bird is just holding onto the side of the house at the moment.

Is it trying to build a nest?

I'm a bird. I am the 1% (of pets).

I suggest letting it do whatever it is doing and let it die if that's what's going to happen. Why must you interfere?
Being in debt and celebrating a lower deficit is like being on a diet and celebrating the fact you gained two pounds this week instead of five.
