problem reading windows made dvd

my father is trying to transfer all his pictures from the windows world, he backed them up on a dvd-r and cannot read the disk in panther..
whats going on?
(got my brother and pop to switch this christmas, score for the home team)

can you read the files on a PC? if not, the disc is no good.

he can read the disc fine on a windows pc
I have suggested he setup virtual pc and just drag the files over, but it is my unerstanding that panther should be able to read this disc no problem..

This DVD is probably written in the UDF 2.0 format. This format is unreadable under OS X without third party drivers. Any DVD made in Adobe Encore DVD on the PC will not work under OS X. This is a known issue and will probably be fixed with some future OS update.
