I upgraded to Safari 3.1 when it came out. Works great, no complaints regarding rendering or speed.

However, it seems to be much to processor intensive than the previous version. I notice that when I have it running, my normal browsing habits result in the computer working much harder, and it quickly becomes less responsive to basic things like mouse clicks and key strokes. Even the fans start winding up.

I'm running what is sadly now a low-end machine (SP G5 1.8), but the previous version had none of these problems.

Anyone else noticed this?

What does your Activity Monitor utility say about CPU or Memory useage for Safari 3.1. I'm curious. I'm running S 3.1 on an even older G4 Mac and have noticed no difference from 3.04. If anything, Safari 3.1 runs snappier and takes less resource than the version it replaced.

Did you by any chance install the Security Update 2008-002 BEFORE you upgraded Safari ?---that seems to be the way to go. ( I did). They were both released within a couple days of each other. I seemed to notice improvements in my G4 Mac running after the security update, especially network.

I installed the Security Update and Safari in whatever order they came into Software Update.

Mine runs under 1% -15% of CPU and uses about 108mb of real memory (8 threads) on an MBP which seems reasonable. Funny it does note seem to be an Intel-enabled app...says PowerPC in AM. Sure crashes a lot however. And right now, it's running but the dock light indicator is not even on...go figure.

Safari 3.1 seems faster to me. Still has terrible caching though, so crashes can be expected.
