I LOOOOOVE the idea of expose within the browser and a browser shelf/dock.

Exposé in the browser was also available in Shiira 1.0 when it was first released years ago

That said, Shiira 2.0 looks very promising. Between this, Safari extensions like Saft, OmniWeb and even Flock - there are lots of good stuff happening to browsers again

Never used it but I would say Shiira team has a great taste. Maybe I would try that upcoming 2.0 version.

Nice to see fresh ideas on software development, if only another companies would mimic it…

I'm so glad to hear this. The Shiira website hasn't been updated for many months, and I was afraid it was being abandoned.

The new features look great. Can't wait!

I just wish Shiira had public CVS access like it used to. It was great when if you wished the browser had some feature, you could just go implement it...

Hmm... when I last checked Shiira I was turned off by the clutter (particularly in prefs). *goes to see if they've cleaned it up any*

Looks like there's some really cool stuff happening. The speed of Shiira has always been impressive.

I'm really surprised this hasn't been posted yet:

The first beta of Shiira 2.0 is now available here.

Pretty nice interface indeed. Haven't played around with it too much yet, though, to see how stable it is for a beta.

It's REALLY buggy. I had it and tried running it for a few days but finally gave up. Bookmarks don't work and it crashes quite a bit. They should have called it Shiira 2.0 alpha 1 instead of beta. I've never tested a beta that was this bad.

so 2.0 is OUT… but I find it buggy… e.g. images are not shown @ apple.com

Anyone tried this yet?

Yeah, it's still kind of buggy. I had a hard time getting the bookmarks to cooperate when using the Firefox bookmarks (it already showed up in Shiira's bookmarks) and it took some messing with to get it to stick as Shiira's permanent bookmarks.

It's pretty though. I might use it again once they iron out some of these things.

I can't help but feel that if they would make the CVS available again, people would submit patches and bugfixes, and these issues would clear up sooner.

I sent them a small patch from the source zip that's on their site a month or two ago, and never heard anything back. Ah, how I miss the days when Shiira was this cool open-source browser that you could add to easily because of Cocoa...

We know that Shiira 2.0 still has some problems. We are working for them, and you can get fixed version via Appcasting technologies embed in Shiira 2.0.

Shiira project is not dead. It's time to rebirth.

It's time to rebirth.

On a more serious note, kudos to these guys for the work they've done so far.

1.0 is great although the 2.0 beta doesn't even support homepages.

Shiira still isnt' ready for Prime time.
There are a lot of disabled features & incomplete implementation, and no activity to speak of in over 6 months.

It's very buggy. I opened macnn.com and it spawned about a dozen tabs to load all the adverts in. First attempt to load gmail failed completely and then the second attempt spawned two tabs. Not ready at all yet I think.

Well, the last beta was in December, which was less than 6 months ago. Also, since the CVS isn't up anymore and they seem to have made development private, we have no idea how much they've actually worked on the app, just that it's been 4 months since the last public beta release.

I like it, especially the full screen browser, but there are definitely issues (I can't import my Safari/Firefox bookmarks, just have this shelf thing??), and things missing (full screen tabs??). Will definitely keep hold of this though, and keep it updated.

It'll be much easier if you just comply.

God how I'd love to ditch Firefox for a true OS X browser, any browser, but those damn extensions are so useful! I may be approaching the point where I'm ready to give them up for a while if some of my key extensions can be replicated on another browser.
