I just purchased the DVD to Apple TV converter software from MP4 Converter Software Studio and wanted to see if others are using this. If so, when converting DVD's to the highest video quality (2500 Kbps), are you having problems importing this into iTunes? I wanted to rip my DVD at the highest level so it would look less pixelated in iTunes but can't seem to make this work.

Thanks,
Paul

Right, but what is the advantage of the non-free one?

I've downloaded Handbrake and will try this to see how it compares to the MP4 Converter software. I did contact them and they told me that higher quality (2500 Kbps) will not be imported into iTunes. In fact they said anything over 1200 Kbps may not. I was able to get 1500 kbps into iTunes but I see pixelation and a "sparkle" effect on certain parts of the image. I am still wondering why higher quality level files cannot be imported even though they are MP4 files.

To those who may be interested, I just finished a conversion using Handbrake of the same DVD I tried earlier with the MP4 Converter software. The notable difference is that with Handbrake you can specifically set the video quality level. I set it to 1700 kbps or a bit higher than what I did with the MP4 Coverter software at 1500 kbps. With the latter, you can only choose 1500 or 2500. 2500 kbps will not import into iTunes. 1700 did work and the video quality seems improved over 1500. The "sparkle" effect is gone although the image does look slightly grainer than the MP4 Converter version. I am going to keep raising the kbps number to see if I can continue improving the video quality. So, the net of this is that Handbrake seems better for this use than MP4 Converter.

Handbrake works nice for me.
If you would like to convert videos, ffmpegx is free.

Arrgh! Please stop simply mentioning Handbrake (or ffmegx) and leave some settings!
What settings do you use with Handbrake or whatever MP4 converter you have????? That would much more useful information!!!

I agree with cuvtixo. If others can put in their settings, we can compare video performance and what will/will not import into iTunes.

There is an Ipod FAQ that has the info you need at the top of this forum. consult that first before asking this often asked question. With Mac the ripper, ffmpegX, handbrake and isquint, I see no reason to buy any converter software for the Mac, these are all free and work well.
