Hey --

I bought it about 4-5 months ago, along with the $300 applecare protection from the Apple Store.. Do I need to call in, or just provide proof of purchase when I have a problem?

thanks-

Where did you buy it from?

If you bought it from an Apple Retail Store, they will automatically attach and activate AppleCare to your iBook at checkout.

You can call up Apple (1-800-APL-CARE) and ask them to see if your machine has AppleCare attached to it. You will need your machine's serial number.

Or you can register at http://register.apple.com

Thanks for the info. I've got some uneven lighting (unusual brightness at a spot or two as well as shadows), but am debating on whether or not I should wait a year or two knowing that I can still send it in later. I don't have any dead pixels, for which I am grateful, and as I see it it is kind of a crapshoot as to whether or not I would have that problem with a new or refurbished display..

Why wait? Give it to Apple now. I'm assuming if it's a straight-forward problem, they'll give you a new LCD, and you'll have it back in a few days.

Don't wait, do it now. You'll thank yourself later.
