Anyone else notice that the "temple" sound is no longer in the list of available sounds for Mail, system alerts, etc.
Why did Apple get rid of it for 10.2? I liked it for alerting me when I had new mail. Anyone know how I can get it back?

It's amazing how one simple little change like that can make things so much nicer. It seems like everyone used it for mail, I thought that I was the only one.
Thanks alot.

Sorry to be slow, but when I try to copy the sound to my sys/lib/sounds folder I get a error saying that it cannot be modified. What am I doing wrong. I am using the admin login. Thanks for the help.

Open the sys/lib/sounds folder in "get info" and change the permissions to read and write change "owner" to yourself. I think you have to click a lock icon to get it to work and you have to be logged in as admin.
Hope that helps.

It's a BAD idea to change the contents of the /System/Library/ folder. It's reserved for system use by Apple.
Put your sound(s) in your private ~/Library/Sounds/ folder or in the system-wide /Library/Sounds/ folder. That way you will not mess anything up and it will survive the next update.

I agree, it could be risky--good point.
I don't have a library sounds folder. Should I just make one?

for those that did a clean install with the archive feature, you can get your "temple" sound from your previous system folder......

And for those that didn't, you can can use Pacifist to extract the sound from the packages on the 10.1 install CD.
Yeah, I know, shameless plug. Deal with it.

Personally, I still like the System 6 sounds: "Monkey" & "Boing". I also still use the Mac OS 7 desktop pattern "Denim".

I loved the squeaky-toy sound for new mail. I see it's in my System file from OS 9, but I'm not exactly sure how to extract it. I mean, I could, but it would take awhile.
Anyone happen to have squeaky-toy available?

What ever happened to the good old simple "beep" that has been built into the Mac OS as long as I have known it? I wouldn't remind a good old-fashioned beep to make me all warm and fuzzy inside.
