I have a dual 1.8 G5 and I would like to use my older but still great Umax SCSI scanner.
Can anyone suggest the appropriate SCSI card?

I think a SCSI to FireWire adapter would be a better option. Certainly cheaper if all you want to do is use your scanner.

Ack! I've only heard TERRIBLE things about those SCSI→Firewire adapters... I haven't used one myself though. Have you used one with positive results?
I recently bought an Adaptec PowerDomain 29160 (via eBay) for my dual 1.0 GHz G4. I picked this card mainly due to its G5 compatibility. You might want to check it out.

It might be cheaper and more productive to just buy a new scanner. Yours must be several years old, and they've improved a lot.

I agree, you can get a new scanner for much cheaper than getting a SCSI card for your Mac. Canon makes a couple of great USB bus-powered scanners for under $100.
