One demo that has really impressed far more than I expected was Rune. Enjoyed it more than Team Arena - maybe I'm weird.

We'll see about Oni - going home to my DSL in two days. Getting Mom's cooking first!

Sting --

Yeah, Rune is great! (just bought it).
I mean, talk about IMMERSIVE!

Only complaint I have is the obscene RAM requirements... I'm on a Dual G4/450 with a Radeon, but only 128MB RAM, and I have to run the thing in 640x480 to keep it from getting choppy! Guess it's time to upgrade to 256 (which is only $59 thanks to today's rock-bottom RAM prices).

Doom 3, if released on the Mac, will be disappointing.
You apparently need like a minumum GeForce GTS to run the damn thing...
Or so I've heard.
I'm waiting for StarCraft 2, Doom 3, UT2 and a couple others that don't come to mind at the moment...

Doom III will run on Mac OS X only; no support for OS 8.x/9.x. And yes, you'll likely need a Radeon or better.

id has made a very big deal out of the fact that their next game will run on OS X for sure, but not OS 9. They actually respect that OS for its technical qualities. And it might be disappointing compared to the PC version...There's a good chance that Apple will start catching up in 3D power soon, but they won't catch up that quickly. However, you're forgetting that Doom 3 is at least one more generation of 3D cards away. By the time D3 comes out, we'll be laughing at the losers who only have Radeon cards in their systems. We'll be able to play it.

As for an actual storyline, nothing has been revealed. But plot is never id's strong point.

Come to think of it, they haven't said much at all about what the game will be like. Aside from saying that they want to focus on making the ultimate single player game (like Q3 was the ultimate multi-player), all they've done is release lots of eye candy. There hasn't been an update in a while from them, and I'm half expecting that they wil show up for Steve Jobs' keynote next week. (It's the kind of thing that Steve loves to do, and id is a big fan of OS X, so they would do it.)

Well it will have to be some game if its gonna be the ultimate single player game...
A story line better than Deus Ex, and just better on all fronts that Deus Ex... not just graphics wise

I think that the "ultimate single player" game for iD would be more focused on action than on strategy. Not that that makes it necessarily better or worse than Deus Ex -- just different. A lot of people feel that games from the past several years just haven't matched the thrill of Doom, because true 3D games have to limit the number of enemies onscreen at once to save polygons. But now that graphics technology has gotten so powerful, maybe it will be possible for a truly 3D game to offer fast-paced action with monsters coming from all sides. That's the best theory that I've heard from others.

Well, that and the fact that the game had better be really atmospheric and scary.

I don't have much time to play games so I tend to go towards games that I can play for about 1/2 hour and let out some aggression and go back to work. I've tried UT and QIII deathmatches over the internet, but am not as good as the 13 year olds out there and am forever getting killed - no fun.

I noticed Carmageddeon III was out for PC - here's hoping there's a quick port to the Mac. I feel refreshed after playing Carmagedeon II with cheats and just continually running over people.

Thank god I'm not in a focus group on what type of games game companies should be making. If my opinion counted, you'd all be stuck playing games where you never die and get to endlessly murder several hundred people extraordinarily.

the next wolfenstein isn't being made by id.

the games i look forward to are:
Final Fantasy X, XI
Doom III (with the Nine Inch Nails soundtrack like Quake)

Doom III will be like the advancement between Doom and Quake. For the people who had doubts in id's games (unreal lovers who hated quake III), nothing will come close to Doom III when it's released. It will be the game that gets other developers off their ass and make some real games.

I'm not exactly thrilled with the Rogue Spear demo-even on a Ruby DV it jerks and sucks. I prefer the N64 version, I'm sorry to say.

My life will be complete (well probably not) when Final Fantasy Anthology II is released. There aren't any games better than Final Fantasy IV and Chrono Trigger.

I'm also waiting for:
Puyo Puyo for Game Boy Advance
Lunar 3
Dragon Warrior VII (please, Enix, we're begging for you to release it in the United States)
Persona 2: Innocent Sin (not to be confused with Persona 2: Eternal Punishment)
Dragon Warrior III for Game Boy Color
The Legend of Zelda: The Mystical Seed of Power
Castlevania: Circle of the Moon
Mario Advance
Tetris for Game Boy Advance
Namco Museum Advance
and of course, Final Fantasy X, Final Fantasy XI, and Final Fantasy XII

None of these are Mac games, but you can play most of them on a Mac with an emulator.

I've noticed that quite a few people have mentioned Doom 3. I'm surprised no one has asked this yet: shouldn't Doom 3 be Doom 4? After all, wasn't Final Doom Doom 3?

I'm looking forward to all the above mentioned games, but I am very looking forward to Icewind Dale. I read this game was getting ported to the Mac, http://www.insidemacgames.com/previews/00/icewind_dale/
Has anyone heard anything about it lately?

Kinda Baldurs Gate style, with a bit more action, what's not to love?

Myth III

If this game is anywhere near the quality of MythII, my machine will get whatever upgrades it needs to play it well. Period.

BTW, anyone want to tell me if there are any upcoming Civ games(I mean in a very strict sense, either made by the same company as CivII or made by Sid Meier. I loved Civ, I loved CivII, I loved AC. Anything else I should be checking out?(didn't really like MOO, haven't played MOO2 - should I?)

I think MOO2 is a great game, especially if you like turn-based strategy games. If you didn't really like the original MOO, you might not like MOO2. However, it is real cheap now, so I would check it out.

Sid Meier and team is currently working on Civilization III. He recently put his other title, Dinosaurs, on hold indefinitely. Civ III hasn't been announced for the Mac, but it's obviously a clear Mac port candidate for a company like MacSoft.

I just got Quake III after exhausting Unreall Tourney. Seems pretty cool , I just whalloped my co-worker.

But heh, we need more games - more driving games (Driver is old already & Carma III better be ported!) and more Flight sims and add a few more fantasy titles. That would be nice.

My biggest problem with ports is the lack of quality - cheesy interfaces make me hurl. Doesn't anyone write Mac games anymore?

I thought the interface of Unreal Tournament was pretty cool BUT the mouse control stinks (on both Mac and PC)!!! Kind of reminds me of Windows mouse control (especially Win3.1). I have to say that The Sims and SimCity 3000 are the two worst interfaces. Worst mouse control than UT!

I look forward to a version of Cro-Mag Rally that simply lets you race the opponents. For the unfamiliar, CMR is a million kinds of fun; great visuals, soundtrack, and play. That's in Practice mode. Once you're up to speed (ha) with the tracks, the cars, and the controls, though, the other drivers are WAY easy to beat. When you get good you're supposed to play in Tournament mode, where you have to race the other drivers AND collect a bunch of objects scattered around the track in order to win, but I'd like the option just to race wthout the handicap. It's close now, but with that one chage, this would be an absolutely fantastic game.

Tried the Driver demo and didn't care for it much; very crappy graphics and sound, plus I couldn't even find the option to throw the car in reverse...

Carmageddon I was fun, CII is probably better stll.

Pangea makes Mac-only games (Cro-Mag Rally included). Careful attention to fit and finish, for sure; the opposite of junk like the Driver port.
